  • The first signs of Spring are here and that means we start to see our stars return for the Spring Racing carnival. Kementari looks a special in Race 7 in Sydney today as his first up record is good enough to win this. Also thought best each way today is in Race 2 at Randwick in Fui San 3rd whose record second up is sound and he has the services of an outstanding jock in Tommy Berry.
Today is also the first test of how the new Point of Consumption tax will go in Queensland. Personally I hope its a failure as I just hate how the punter is continually taxed whilst other sectors such as breeders are not.
Last week I threw in some selections for Perth which whilst consistent and tad or two unlucky didnt result in a winner. I'll try again today and hopefully this time the Gods will be on our side.
    Here are today's selections:

    DOOMBEN:
    R1 no 1 Pumps 4th
    R5 no 1 Sabkhat Won $3
    R6 no 10 Italia Bella 4th
    R7 no 10 El Shaday 4th

    RANDWICK:

    R3 no 6 Raqeeq......Vaucluse Bay 2nd is a place chance
    R6 no 4 Smartedge 3rd
    R7 no 2 Kementari 2nd

    MOONEE VALLEY:
    R3 no 8 Causeway Girl
R6 no 4 Streetcar to Stars
    R7 no 11 Another Coldie
    R8 no 2 Morton's Fork Won $4.50

    BELMONT: (Meeting Abandoned)

SR2 no 2 Cliff Started Fav. Ran 2nd. Lay bet won

    • Morning all. Not a good start to the Spring Racing Carnival last week but that's how racing is. Sometimes we find some nice little gems and sometimes we dont.So lets hope that last week was just one of those days and we can now return to some normalcy.
Here are today's selections and I'll also include Belmont which will run later in the day for those who are not early risers. Selections for Belmont will be some two or more hours behind the others due to the time difference in Western Australia.
Time permitting I'll update as the meetings progress.
      Good luck with your investments;

      • Morning all. Big day at Randwick today with the running of the Group One Winx Stakes. And just for good measure our number one racehorse in Winx is running in the Winx Stakes!!. Currently its a $1.20 chance and is chasing a record breaking 26th win in a row. Winx first up over 1400 is arguably contesting its most vulnerable race for this preperation particularly as it will get back and will need to be on its best to pick up the likes of Kementari and D'Argento. There is a 100/1 shot in Cabeza De Vaca in this that will probably be the leader at the turn so Winz may have her work cut out to peg back these three contenders. Much as I would to see Winz win, and the odds suggest she will bolt in, my head tells me that at $1.20 she may be worth a little lay bet. This week lets hope that the high run of near misses in seconds and thirds dont plaque us like they did last week.
Here are todays selections and time permitting regular updates will occur as the meetings progress.
Hope you have a winning day.

        RANDWICK:
R2 no 5 Vaulcluse Bay.2nd..thought Red Alto 3rd(10/1) would finish in the top three.
        R3 NO 3 Brook Magic 2nd
        R4 no 3 Oohood
R5 No 6 Military Zone..... thought he has too many guns here!!
        R6 no 9 D"Argento was worth a specky at 25/1 or better. 3rd
        R7 no 7 Siege Of Quebec 2nd

        CAULFIELD

        RI No 2 Naantali 2nd
        R2 no 3 Rillto
        R3 no 14 Plutocracy
R4 no 17 Streets of Avalon Won $3
        R5 no 2 Native Soldier 3rd
        R6 no 1 Sunlight Won $4.30
        R7 no 11 Kings Will Dream 4th
        R8 no 3 Osbourne Bulls Won $3.60
        R9 no 5 Plein Ciel Won $5.20

        R1 no 3 Kakadu 2nd
        R2 no 3 Geographe Bay 3rd
        R4 no 3 Pyms Royale Won $3
        R5 no 11 Truly Belong
R8 no 2 Epic Grey (owned by a mate...huge run last start). Value bet here is no 10 Dia De La Raza

        LAY BETS:
MR6 no 10 Pippie Started Fav. Ran unplaced. Lay bet won
SR9 no 5 Kaonic. Started $3,20 Fav. Won Lay bet lost

        • Plenty happening in Oz in the last few days with politics as once again the revolving door of our Prime Minister has once again been activated and we now have yet another Prime Minister who now becomes our sixth PM within the last decade. So if you think you have discontent in the UK with your pollies and whats happening then spare a thought for us poor Aussies who are bombarded with bad behavior from those who should be setting a better example. Now that's out of the way its back to racing and I must say the run of seconds and thirds of late have been exasperating and frustrating and of course I'm talking from my wallet which is somewhat lighter as a result of some results that should have been different but thats racing and we must look long term and absorb these hiccups as part of the price we pay as punters.

          • The curse of the 2nd's and 3rds continues to plague the results. Ten selections ran second last week and some were beaten by a pimple so the difference between a winning and losing day is substantial. But lets not vent our anger at the Gods of Odds as history tells us that Lady Luck will smile on us eventually and we just have to be patient. Hard to swallow I know particularly when you look at Belmont results and ponder what could have been with just a little bit of luck!!

                  • Morning Guys. Today will be a short version as last night was a heavy session and I,m facing a similar function this afternoon. Hopefully the body will return to normal after the punishment.!!
Nice to see a $16 winner salute last week...thats helped the punting bank considerably!!

                    • One of my favorite horses in Santa Ana Lane saluted at $10 last week which was a nice result. Its a much under rated conveyance and I give it a good chance in any race from 1200m upwards including the upcoming Everest if it gets a start. Its stablemate in Shoals is also one to throw into the Black Book. Attention is now focusing on Melbourne as the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups loom and as a prelude we have the Turnbull Stakes there today where our best horse in Winx will run a very short priced favourite.
Its the best time of the racing calendar in Australia.
Here are todays selections and good luck with your investments.

RANDWICK: (Heavy 9 so bet here with caution)

                      • Well Spring racing is really upon us now. Sydney has a couple of mountains to climb and the winners of the Kosciuszko and the Everest will be richly rewarded. The Kossie is for country horses and the prizemoney that they are competing for today is a very respectable $1.3m. Now as good as that is it actually pales into insignificance when you compare the Everest prizemoney which is a staggering $13m or ten times more than the Kossie. The Everest will be run for just the second time in its history and already its the worlds richest race. If you are a UK resident reading this you'll be interested to learn that you have a runner in the race in US Navy Flag to be ridden by Ryan Moore and its trained by Aiden O'Brien. My old favourite Santa Ana Lane gets a start so I'll be having a small each way bet as this is a hard race to win but I would hate for Santa to win and not be on it!!
Here are today's selections and good luck with your picks.

                        RANDWICK:

R7 no 2 Santa Ana Lane....throw in Shoals and US Navy Flag for the trifecta.
                        R10 no 1 Bryan.......each way at $10 or better.

                          • Last week we had some interesting stats with a nice run of winners in Melbourne followed by a frustrating run of seconds in Perth followed by a successful run in the lay bets. Best Solutions win in the Caulfield Cup at $14 was a nice result and proves that the overseas visitors this year are having a huge impact on our major races. Today we have the middle leg of the major Spring Races in the running of the time honoured Cox Plate. Our best horse in the nation is going for her 30th straight win so we wish connections and Winx well in what might be her last campaign before retirement.
Personally I think Winx is poor value at the $1.22 current price and I expect her price will ease although she really only has two to beat in this eight horse field.I'll be working around her in the hope that one of the two top chances manages to hold her off. You should never do this with champions however I just have the feeling in my water that she may be suspect if Benbatl sets a fast pace and she is outstayed by Humidor in the run to the post. Time will tell.
Here are today's selections. No racing in Queensland today as the industry is protesting the application of the new Point of Comsumption Tax which I have reported about on here in past spiels. There wont be any updates in running today as I'm off to attend the opening of a new recreational park where they have
plenty of free food and wines which I find irresistible.!!

                            MOONEE VALLEY:

                            • Morning all and welcome to a huge day of racing in Melbourne Victoria. Today will be a very short edition as I'm off to Melbourne shortly for the Melbourne Cup carnival where hopefully I can pick up a dollar or two to help pay for the trip. A close friend of mine tried to have abet on Ventura Storm for the Melbourne Cup each way at the odds of $34 which pays out on four placings. He had it with bet 365 and went for $34 each way. The bet wasnt accepted so he tried for half that amount and was confronted with the max bet flag. The most he could put on was $1.52 each way so understandably he has now closed his Bet365 account.
So I wish you all well with your investments today and in the Melbourne Cup where the International visitors seem to have this at their mercy. With a bit of luck I'll be back next weekend and with pockets bulging. If not I'll drown my sorrows in one of Melbourne's fine hotels and dream about what could have happened if my first four bet had been successful.
Here are todays selections and I'll update the results hopefully tomorrow sometime.
Have fun and enjoy the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

                              • Well the Melbourne Cup has been run and won and I'm now back in sunny Brisbane. The Cup was run in sunshine and a few minutes after it pelted down with cold wet rain so happy to tick that off the bucket list.
Today has some excellent racing at Flemington and hopefully we can pick some winners. By the way i did pick up a share of the Melb Cup trifecta and my each way bet on Marmelo ran second so despite the rain it was a profitable day thanks to two earlier winners around $7.50 each.
