Leaving aside all the bitching (which amount of loudness is inversely proportional to the amount of grey matter owned between the ears) about TheGeek's crime to shut down The Toy to non-donors just for this week think about this:
Donations is a f*ucking revolutionary way to price stuff.
In the particular case we are talking about a software (soft ware...) which is actually (together with any product of human craftsmanship lacking the solidity, in the age of digital coding, of a material mean such as music, literature, tale telling, movies, etc.) a thing of very difficult evaluation and hence pricing.
Close to the totality of "anything at all" that you find, especially in the WEB, has a price stuck to it.
In the best case, for what the software (again: soft... ware, f*ucking think of it!!!) is concerned you get a certain trial period and then you have either to pay it or to crack it or to f*uck it.
With the donations system is the f*ucking user (me and you) who assesses the right (fair) value of the commodity and price it. It's f*ucking great if once in your lifetime you spend some efforts to crank that thing that you carry around mounted on the tip of yr necks, hidden behind the eyes, addressed as brain in plain English, and think.
Imagine what would happen with cars, restaurant bills, washing machines, etc. etc. if it were the user to assess price according to the value he/she perceives.
If you do not donate (after having had all the f*ucking time in the world to try, test, squeeze, customize) for something, it means it has no value for you. So why bitching?
You didn't have the proper time to evaluate TheToy and therefore assess yr personal price/value? fair enough, no probs, relax for the rest of this week and after that you'll have the next months (until the next charity initiative) to scrounge free usage of the Toy and keep on mulling over its value/price.
Thing is that I am almost 100% sure that all this fuss is started by people who's got an interest in other cash-over-the-counter products and couldn't wait to pour some scum over here...
bitching nicks to me belong to one of the following:
brain deprived imbeciles. Do not dare to donate, I'm telling you. Do yourself some good and save yr money to pay a shrink or to have a transplant in your skull cavity: plenty of space in there. and, be warned, but I'd like to start a petition to deprive you of the right to vote, in any election, even that to assign the prize of best janitor of yr kindergarden... where you actually go as a end user, that is you are the one who actually needs to be guarded.
golems: f'uck off elsewhere then.
raving owners (or on the payroll of raving owners) of traditionally priced competitor applications. Grow up and get real dudes: yr stuff sucks.

While I agree that you are at liberty to charge for the toy or even force users to make a donation to a charity you fancy, forcing people to donate to pseudo charities which use up to 90% of their donations to cover administrative and ancillary costs with only a trifle of what they receive trickling down to the actual causes they purport to support is not the way to go about it IMHO
You're not very ninja-like Olaf.
For someone who takes the time to explain himself thoroughly and writes eloquently I can only assume you're not a moron. Then why so unreasonable? Has logic left you entirely? There's little sense in providing something free of charge for 50/52 weeks whilst investing time and money supporting it only to keep the other two weeks' dough and pat yourself on the back for ripping off a very high profile charity.
Your main point seems to be The Geek is underhand. You've already been presented with overwhelming evidence of prior notice for compulsory donations and short of appearing on TV waving an oversized cheque shaped like a ****** and then a receipt for payment you'll have to take it for granted that the money makes it's way to comic relief.
... While I agree that you are at liberty to charge for the toy or even force users to make a donation to a charity you fancy, forcing people to donate to pseudo charities ... whichever comes first, I will take a subscription with one of the API products and continue donating to charities of my choice, while living with the fact that I would be able to use the product without fear that my use of it will be impaired at the whim of the developer.
Completely agreed.
Mr Geek Toy I thank you very much for the wonderful software that you have for free. Any way I'm using your wonderful software for more than 1 year and I will have to wait till tuesday cause I do not have money on my Paypal account
But I must remember you, that you few months ago, when there was a kind of survey about charge or not the software, you wrote "The Geek never will be payed to be used". It seems that the rules of the game changed.
Just one advise, never say never if you are not complete sure.
Well guys I cannot donate as I am here in sunny Brazil and PAYPAL refuse to accept any business from this 3rd world country!!..lol...........so I just have to use alternatives for the week, there are plenty out there, even a free one that arrived this morning! So have a great week and see you all next week and as for the bitching , get over yourself for goodness sake, life goes on, Massey's ratings are going soon, did you bitch the same to Adrian?.
