  • automatic Hedging stake adjustment

    Hi guys,

    I have only started to use a GeeksToy 2 days ago...

    I trade the football markets using the ladder view.

    I have not figured out yet how to set it up so that when I hedge a position the hedging stake automatically changes/adjusts to the odds.

    Example: I lay the draw a 3.5.....and want to hedge out (back the draw) at higher odds. Lets say a team just scored and the odds for backing the draw start to rise. With the ladder I want to maximise the return I can get...i.e. my odds for greening out are not fixed could be e.g. 5.5 or 5.75 or 6.2...depending on market movements....of course the higher the back odds I manage to get the lower the stake necessary to green out -> which means more profit.

    At the moment I click on hedge and it gives: Example "Back the draw at $12.59 at odds of 5.5"......now 2 seconds later I notice by looking at the ladder that I could get odds of 6.2 .....thus the necessary hedging stake for the same return would drop to "Back the draw at $11.17 at odds of 6.2".....how do i set it up so it quickly calculates/adjusts the stakes to hedge from $12.59 to $11.17 example by dragging it up and down the ladder? at the moment I have to do it using a calculator....which is slow and inefficient.

    hope this was not too complicated....fellow traders will hopefully understand what I mean.

    Thanks guys!

    While I don't completely get your examples, I do understand what you want. In regards to drag/drop, I don't think it is possible, but you do have those options.
    I believe, if you go to your ladder menu (right click on the blue bar at the top of the ladder), down to Ladder Layout, down to Profit/Loss, and choose Own Column, your potential profit/loss will be shown for all odds up and down the ladder. This is a one click option, that will put the appropriate bet in at those odds to try to lock in that profit/loss.

    The other option, I think you can just right click on the price in the ladder, and it will give you a list of options for the stake to place there. One of these will be the hedge figure associated with that price, and your previous transactions.

    The other option again, is the hedge figure at the timer. This figure though, is a basic estimate, if you trade out each individual selection, at the best odds available for that runner. Obviously it is better for you, if you chase better prices, on each traded selection, than simply taking what is available, unless of course time is of the essence...

    My recommendation though:
    Ladder Menu
    -> Ladder Layout
    ->Profit/Loss
    ->Own Column

    It has been ages since I changed any settings, but that looks like the obvious one to get what I have up.

    To further my post a little, when drag/dropping your bet in the market, it actually gets cancelled and replaced at the new odds. If you wish to hedge, just cancel your bet, and click on the profit next to the odds you want, and the new bet will be placed anyway. It is a 2 click process only, to change your requested hedge, to a new price, but I believe there is no way to do this via the drag/drop method...

    Hope this helps?

    Here is a video, from a quick google search. It was apparantly posted by a user HenrytheNavigator. I merely show this, to show the included column that I am talking about. If you look at the video, the column to the right of the blue column, is the profit/loss column. You will see this change and fill with values after his first bet. You can see green figures, and red figures. Simply click on the figure, and the appropriate bet will fire in. Video isn't clear, but I just wanted to find a quick visual to show you what I mean, so you can either confirm or deny that my post is relevant to what you wanted...

      For dragging & dropping if you set the following option....

      Ladder Menu -> Advanced Betting -> On Hedge Bet Drag Drop -> Cancel Then Hedge

      ... it will re-calculate the correct stake on any hedge bet,

      To hedge @ any price either....

      A. Click on the profit and loss column. { If you are using that. }
      B. Right click instead of left to place a bet on the ladder, and the relevant the hedge figure will show in either green or red as the first item in the menu. Left clicking the menu item will hedge, right clicking will cancel all bets on that selection and hedge.

        Since I am new here, have read the manual , taken every possible approach before asking, can I ask here now whether that drag drop remembers the type of stake? So it will change a hedge bet to a different stake odds dependant? Will it also change a liability stake dragged to a new price? And remember a stake bet and not change it regardless of the new price?

          Yep. Only does that for hedged bets placed via the above methods, or by clicking the hedge value at the top of the ladder, or by hedging the entire market. { which usually gets matched straight away but on rare occasions wont be. }

              Hi,

              Is it possible to (try to) hedge all my back bets at odds shorter than 2. I have learned how to make Tick Offset options bigger, so I can put pending Lay Hedge at 1,01 every time, but I would like to put it at fixed odds 1,2, or 1,3.
              It is annoying to do it with ticks, not knowing where is exactly my exit bet.

              Or, maybe the simplest solution - can I delete all Betfair ticks under 1,1, then all my Hedge Lay bets will be pending at fixed 1,1.
