  • Any good poker books anyone?

I was thinking about buying a poker book and there's one that sticks out at the moment,
Doyle Brunsons Super System 1&2 just wondered if anyone has gone through it or any other poker books like Gus Hansen or Daniel Negreanu cheers all.

gus hansen's report of his 2006 aussie million winning is top reading: enjoyable like a novel.

but if your scope is actual study, then, unless math is yr cup of tea, I'm afraid you better be prepared to get bored down to death: unsurpassed top quality, imho:

"The Mathematics of Poker" by Bill Chen and Jerrod Ankenman.

Doyle Brunson's books (where he actually wrote 2 chapters and his son another one) are to me 20% good stuff, 80% crap.

much better Daniel Negreanu "Power Holdem Strategy", The Small Ball disclosed.... and not just
Anyone who says he can see through women... is missing a lot.

      Hi
I think that Harrington’s books are must if you are planning to enter the world of tournaments. A very good book is “Treat your poker as a business” Dusty Schmidt and a must for the start (100NL tables) are balugawhale books vol I & II. Do not waste your time with Doyle Brunson's books.
But are you sure you would like to enter the poker world after Black Friday? I mean there is a great uncertainty right now in the poker industry.
      Anyway good luck.

I used to be interested in poker. The Harrington on Holdem books turned me into a profitable player (it’s a bit tight poker by numbers, though). I also read Middle Limit Holdem Poker by Ciaffone which I was thought was good and is a reasonable introduction to starting to play in larger cash games. What I like about them is that they give loads of examples of actual hands with good reasoning for each action. It is a fairly old book now, so could be outdated and not appropriate for the modern game. It’s been years since I played properly! PM me if you want it, and I’ll send it to you.

I have read this one and i recommended it in a previous post on another thread to someone, i must admit that i never play poker but it also deals with philosophy and that is the reason i read it,

after all poker is the only game where cheating is allowed and i used the knowledge in that book as some background reading for a job that i was doing at the time.

I must say that it thoroughly covered all aspects of poker from 'creating an atmosphere' to get under peoples skin, probabilities, speeding up the betting, how to shuffle the cards (stacking)...etc etc,

the contents list is about 3 pages long to give an idea........

PS, the US situation looks at bit wonky at the moment..........
