  • Betfair - Account Freezing

    Hi folks,

I was just curious and was wondering if anyone had anymore infromation on this subject.

I had read on another forum that Bookies reserve the rights to freeze your account if you win too much and I wondered if this is the same for Betfair considering you're actually betting against other punters?

Not that I'm in any position to be frozen for winning too much (as my stakes are small and I only win 50% of the time!) but I thought this was quite an interesting subject!

    Cheers,

    Andy

    No Way, Jose!

Betfair make commission from winners, so it's not in their interest to turn any business away.

Consistent winners / profit makers are also forced to pay a Premium Charge, so it's a one way ticket to profit as far as they are concerned.

Bookies are dying a slow, drawn out death - mostly because the actual amount of business they now do is minimal compared to years gone by. Instead of concentrating on 'Taking on' Betfair and other exchanges, they have turned their attention to AWPs (Amusements with prizes) - roulette, virtual racing and the other tripe.

      BF a/c freezes

Betfair and other exchanges make money from both sides so it is in their interest to keep your account open. Bookies are a business and they are in the business to make as much money as possible for the shareholders etc so they have the right to restrict your betting if they see your a really big winner.

The exchanges on the other hand are an intermediary for those whom use the exchange to do their betting. they do not take sides as the transactions are between two people who take the oposite view to the other. the exchange makes money from commissions and therfore it is in their financial interest to keep your account live.

Over the past few days there have been some very big losers such as the one whom layed a 1000/1 for £68 so must have had the funds in his/her a/c for this bet to have been accepted. If you have the funds the exchange will NOT restrict you. The only way to get banned on an exchange is if you were a serial abuse of other forum members/account holders.

Bookies have now realised they are a high street dinosaur and now also have very large accounts with the exchanges so they can still "get on" at the favourable prices which are many times as high as 20 to 30% higher then you will find in the bookies shops

Ahhh this is an interesting topic as I suspected!

So lets say that I win 95% of the bets I put on (and let say they are considerably higher that my "couple of quid") then Betfair would take a premium of this in the same way as they take their 95% commission, rather than saying "you're too good at this, Freeze him!"?

        Cheers,

        Andy
