Sods law usually comes into play when you risk your whole bank though

We're generally trading vs betting to reduce our exposure and flat out that pnl graph so we have a stress free ride. If you risk your bank once you'll do it again and considering a) betfair isn't the most stable of platforms b) we don't always think correctly with large sums at play - simple stats mean one of those times we're gonna get screwed eventually.

Fair enough we may actually double or triple our profit when using the bank but it's just that risk too far, there'll be thousands of other markets along shortly it's just not worth the risk. To me when people are overstaking, as well as being bad money management, it always seems to me they're just not satisfied with the amounts they're making and chasing profits.

      • Getting a backup connection is a must. Knowing that you may be cut off from the internet for a few minutes is an additional stress factor which doesn't affect you in a positive way, Flok.

        • Don't be so hard on yourself flok... we all drop a bollock from time to time, i happened to do it yesterday on the barney curley runner... a silly mistake and i lost my head a bit, not done it anywhere near to that scale so far this year but the odd blip keeps us in touch with reality .... kinda confirms what MF said above too lol. Was completely over it 10 minutes after mind, hangin onto it does you no good!, anyway hope it makes you feel better!!

Well you're presuming a lot of stuff.
I expose my whole bank constantly while trading pre-race. And that's exactly what I want to do.
Simply put your concept of bank is completely different from mine. I only keep on Betfair money I know I might lose (shouldn't everyone?). My actual 'bank' is on Paypal.

Just a different way to do money management.

If your actual bank is on Paypal you are only exposing your whole BF balance, not your whole bank... Your bank is what you have available for betting/trading regardless of how much of it is in any individual betting account.

I sometimes expose my whole bank, but it's spread over many markets at the same time. So that is not really exposing the whole bank either.

Anyone exposing their whole bank on one trade/market is probably not going to last too long...
If you want more luck... Take more chances!

              • Just a matter of words now. All I meant is that I see no point in restricting exposure with a fixed limit.

You have jogged my memory, Cran. This probably warrants a new fred and by no means do I want to derail this one.

However, a look at the Sharpe ratio, is worthwhile of discussion.

'scuse me ... carry on as you were ...

You did well, I do my money management in the same way, some months ago I filled my BF account with a huge amount (also money I can't afford to lose), I had a strict rule to don't use more than 10 % of my bank, but I broke it in effort to recover my loss, I lost almost full bank, now I use only money I can afford to lose using almost 100 % of my bank.

Only 135k left to hit target. 5 months to do it. Go team Temujin....

                              • When I played Diablo II long time ago, I played on hardcore dificulty(this means if your hero dies, it dies for real, can't be resurected, losing all items. You have to start from begining and all that crap) I got drunk 1 night, returned home and decided to play. Well I played Rambo style with no concentration at all, so my hero died very fast From that time i know that I shouldn't drink and play. This game is the same - its hardcore too If you lose money you lose it for real with no return So thank you Diablo II for preparing me for the real battle
