Huddersfield Giants squad
B. Hodgson, Cudjoe, Lolesi, Whaturia, D. Hodgson, Brown, Robinson, Crabtree, Lunt, Mason, Gilmour, Fa'alogo, Raleigh, D. Griffin, Lawrence, Faiumu, Grix, Aspinwall, Horne.
Bradford Bulls squad
Sykes, Langley, Sheriffe, Kopczak, Donaldson, Scruton, Menzies, Kearney, Godwin, L'Estrange, Halley, Nero, Lynch, Reardon, Hall, Crookes, Worrincy, Whitehead, Orford.
I'd guess Aspinwall and one of Horne / Lawrence to drop from Huddersfield and Crookes and one of Kopczaz / Worrincy to drop from Bradford.
Best odds at the moment are Huddersfield 4/6 and Bradford 11/8.
Last year Huddersfield finished a better than expected 3rd and Bradford a worse than expected 9th.
Amazingly, I consider the odds on the home team to represent possible value.
That said, this is the first game of the season for two pretty even teams so I wouldn't be rushing to back. I'm also more likely to watch the game as a spectacle as trade it because this is the first competitive match between two teams who I will be seeing for the first time.
That said, why do I favour Huddersfield?
Well, I don't like Bradford this year. I was high on them last year but think they could be poor this year. Their backline is woeful. Rikki Sheriffe would not get in their 1996 team and Stuart Reardon was out of the game last year! Chris Nero is a second rower in all but name and Paul Sykes has been very ordinary lately.
They have two new halves from Australia, one of whom was out of the game and they only have four props in their squad... One of whom is out this week and the other one is an injury doubt (and a mediocre player!) Their second rowers are also more second row / centres than second row / props.
So.. Watch them win!
As for Huddersfield, I don't really have a strong feeling on them so far so I will want to watch them before making a rash judgement.
