  • Floyd 'Money' Mayweather Jr vs Saul Alvarez

As if seeing Kwis Eubank Jr on Channel 5 is not enough for boxing fans this Saturday, anyone braving it into the early hours of Sunday morning will surely witness a super fight over at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

    Tale of The Tape
Floyd Mayweather Jnr. versus Saul Alvarez
Grand Rapids, Michigan BIRTHPLACE Jalisco, Mexico
WBC welterweight champion TITLE WBC/WBA light middleweight champion
    Money/Pretty Boy Ring name Canelo
    44-0 Record 42-0-1
    26 KOs 30
    21 World Title Fights 10
    36 Age 23
    5'8" Height 5' 9"
    72" Reach 71"
    Orthodox Stance Orthodox
    352 Rounds Boxed 277

    Betfair Prices

    Mayweather 1.39 / 1.40 to lay
    Alvarez 3.85 / 3.90
    Draw 32 / 36

The 1.68 on offer for Mayweather to win by decision / technical decision looks short enough to me. A cheeky lay of Floyd 'Money' at those odds won't hurt the bank too much - and if the bet comes up it will pay for the Pro Plus that will no doubt be needed to see the whole early morning fight through.

It's 54/1 the field in round betting too - very tempting to group the latter rounds for both fighters. Alvarez is said to have shed around 10 pounds in the days leading up to the weigh-in, so it will be interesting to see how he figures going in to the second half of the fight - if both men are still upright.

    Should be a cracking bout.....

Eubank Jr lol. Should be a great fight, I can't remember the last time Mayweather was anywhere near as high as 1.4. Can't believe more isn't being made of it as it has the potential to be the fight (quality wise) of the decade

Just don't know what motivates guys like Mayweather & Hopkins, to keep going, when there's zillions in the bank.

The 'Greats' are always hard to hit, they can hit you, but you can't hit them. Looks easy for Mayweather, as usual, but only a few fights left in him. Heavyweights last longer, as less speed required.

This is going to be a right fight,Mayweather should win but like ted says he's only a few fights left in him and he knows this himself, should have it all this fight.

Young Eubank is a class little fighter too with a big future IF he can jump into the deep end in his next few fights

I agree, I just hope Eubank Snr would just let the kid do his thing and not have to try to steal the spotlight everytime, it must be incredibly stifling for junior.

I think Mayweather will probably win, but I wouldnt totally rule out Alvarez. Would be great for boxing if he won too, if Mayweather gets to retire unbeaten it'll cast a shadow over the division for a long time, with every new fighter who does well not getting the credit they deserve as everyone will say 'well he's good but we'll never know if he'd have beaten Mayweather'

            Mayweather on points!

Was a good fight, if not a great one. One (very dodgy) knock down among the three bouts on the under card set the tone I guess!

Alvarez somehow weighed in 13 pounds heavier than the official weigh-in on Friday. He looked somewhat sluggish from the off, although that said Floyd Mayweather never looked like troubling the Mexican with his power.

It would not have been a surprise if the judges had scored the contest to Mayweather by all 12 rounds, however how C.J Ross arrived at 114-114 should surely be investigated. The other judges posted 116-112, 117-111 and even those scorelines do not reflect the one-sidedness.

Mayweather now has 4 fights to run on his 6 bout / $200 million contract. On this evidence finding worthy opponents will be a task in itself.

            Be lucky

I haven't seen the fight (yet) and don't know the result.... I hate to be presumptuous but if anyone here has watched the full fight online and has a link handy then I'd really appreciate it if you could send it to me in a PM (Rather than here as I dont want to read new comments here in case it gives the result away.)

Of course I could search myself for the fight but whenever I do that I accidentally see the result in the search listings.

              Gracias in advance

That's not strictly true Ted IMO. All fighters get hit with solid punches. What makes a fighter great is what they do after they have been hit. Not saying some fighters aren't slippery customers but some of these modern fighters need to be beat down with willow and see how many times they pick themselves up and continue to show enthusiasm.
