Re: Sportsbet, why do you not bet on the Betfair exchange? You can set your bet as an SP bet so you can place them at a time to suits.
I really like reading your weekly updates about all things Australia based!

Well another Saturday looms amid the extreme summer that we having particularly in Queensland where the temp outside is officially 36deg Celsuis.
That means we need to exercise some care here with the selections as high temperatures affect horses as it does jockeys and trainers. We do have limits in racing here these days and if the temp simply gets too high then the ref blows the whistle and play is suspended or cancelled completely.
A number of mergers of betting agencies have occurred of late which sadly reduces the opportunities to nip a few overs. Sportsbet is now the major player here which is not good news for punters like me as they restricted my betting sometime ago and I just hate having my bets reduced by some over zealous supervisor. On top of that bonus bets are being restricted as are sign on offers. Sign of the time me thinks so one just has to be versatile and patient these days if you want to come out on top.
Early selections will be posted today and these will be altered, amended, added or subtracted wherever necessary when the scratchings are known and the late mail has been delivered. Updates will occur as the day progresses time permitting.
Hope you have an enjoyable and profitable day.

Queensland is still in the middle of a pretty serious drought and as if to emphasize this the dam at the local Eagle Farm racecourse is almost empty. In order to water the training track and the racetrack the cost will be $50,000 per week. Racing in Queensland is doing it tough so an extra financial burden such as a hefty water bill isn't going to be exactly palatable. We have had just one short period of about one hour of rain in the past month so hopefully the predicted storm on Sunday will produce much needed heavy rainfalls.
Good to see the return to metro tracks this weekend which should in theory at least make the task of finding winners a bit more predictable. Still tinkering with the deckchairs and hopefully the fine tuning will be reflected in better results.
As usual the early selections will be posted today and they will change as scratchings and the late mail is received.
Hope your day is a profitable one and thanks again to BOG and PDC for posting thank you's.

Not happy with some of the recent results so time to rearrange the deck chairs. Some of my usually reliable sources are simply not as reliable as they used to be so as from this Saturday I will be dropping two and adding three others and hopefully that will see an improvement in results. Lay bets will remain as is however I'll add back Western Australia for two reasons one of which is they are now entering their carnival period until New Years Day and the results from there are normally consistent. It will mean that the late mail will be delayed for Western Australia only, as the scratchings will be at least 90 minutes in arrears but it may give some of you in the UK an opportunity to bet on some of the selections as they will still be running when your breakfast time arrives.
Lets see how we go and if need be we can always make further changes if necessary. All suggestions are welcome so feel free to post your thoughts hereunder at any time.
As usual the early mail is below but be warned that changes will occur as scratchings are known and the late mail is received.
Unfortunately the meetings at Sydney and Melbourne have been sent to the bush however we'll do our best to pick a few winners.

The silly season has arrived with metropolitan racing in the major states sent out into the sticks. Well I guess there is a winner in every race so we will do our best to find them. Woke up this morning to the sound of low flying helicopters heading north to contest some of the bushfires that are occurring around the Noosa area. Sadly there has been some loss of life and homes as the fierce bushfires continue to wreck havoc. We badly need rain as a dry countryside is an invitation to devastating fires which many believe 85% of such are created by humans.
Last week we started with a bang with a $7 winner and then a shortie at Rosehill however the tide turned thereafter and the results were well below par. Lets hope that despite the racing being out in the countryside the results are a big improvement on last week.
Here are the early selections which of course will be altered, amended and upgraded once the scratchings are known and the late mail is in.

Well the Carnival is not quite over yet as we have two $2 million dollar races set down for decision on Saturday. They are the time honoured Darley Sprint Classic and the Seppelt MacKinnon Stakes. Hopefully we can finish the carnival with a good result.
Two of my favourite horses in Santa Ana Lane and Widgee Turf (Scratched) are contesting and both have excellent chances of saluting.
Very dry conditions here in Brisbane today with a very high fire danger as bushfires are close to the city causing a smokey haze to envelope the city. Temperatures are around the 30deg mark and yesterday they topped 37deg so its a pretty warm period. Hasnt rained for at least a month and some are saying it wont rain here until next January.
As usual here are the early selections which will change as scratching's are known and the late mail is opened.

Thanks PDC. The trip was excellent. Japan is one of those countries that I really like and find it very easy to get around. It helps that I love fast trains and Japan has the best system in the world with its Shinkansen system. Japanese food is excellent and the local beer is cheap and pleasant to drink.
Rugby was good although I did think Wales were the unlucky team. At 16 all with six minutes to go they missed a field goal which could have been the difference as South Africa pinched a late penalty that gave them the game and entry to the big dance. Good aspects were the pleasant looking young Japanese women who carried 18kg of Heineken beer on their backs and poured you a cup of cold beer for 700 Yen and you didnt have to leave your seat. I think the Japanese underestimated the drinking capacity of rah rah followers as there were a shortage of toilets and very long queues. What we didnt like was the "closure" of exits at the end of the game particularly at Oita where we had a 3k walk back to a bus in the darkness. Whilst we appreciate the need for safety no one really thought that closing exits was a sensible solution.
This may sound funny but there is a big difference between Japanese bum sizes compared to the average Australian and Kiwi. The seats in all three stadiums we visited were clearly designed to cater for Japanese bums so we all had problems trying to position our bums on the small Japanese seats. Maybe that's something the organisers may like to look at prior to the upcoming Olympic Games.
Japanese people are very friendly and very helpful particularly if you get lost. At Osaka I couldn't find the Irish Pub so ended up in the red light area whereupon a very friendly lady addressed me by saying Hello Sexy!! Unfortunately my wife was close by and I was forced to dive into Google Maps and quickly find the pub's location so alas the conversation with my potential new friend didnt proceed past the opening remarks.!!
For those that have been to Japan you will know that people dont throw any litter on the streets or footpaths and if you drop any of your possessions they are very quick to let you know and to ensure you retrieve your lost items. Its a nice pleasant culture.
Back to the Rugby and cant say I was impressed with the English teams reactions after running second to South Africa. It was almost as though they went out there expecting that they had only to turn up to collect first prize. I'm sure that the English tabloids would have picked that up and its news in that part of the globe.
All in all that's my third Rugby World Cup and I thoroughly enjoyed the Japanese hospitality and the Sportsnet program and the company of fellow rugby followers including a group from the Goulburn Rugby Union Club who did their city and Club proud.
So there's my short summary of the trip and its back to business as usual from Saturday onwards.

Thanks PDC for your kind words. Very much appreciated. I will try and steer clear of typhoons and not to boo too often regarding any over the top yellow and red cards so all going well will be back in time to post tips and comments for the Melbourne Cup. Take care and thanks again for your comments and support.

This will be the last weekly information and tips forecast until I return from leave which will be the day before this years Melbourne Cup is run and won.
I'm pleased to report that I'm off to watch the semi's and finals game of this years World Cup in Japan as part of an Australian sports Group. My prediction at this stage is that the final will be between New Zealand and Wales and I have taken a couple of bets along these lines. I may trade these out in full or part prior to the final depending on how the markets and games shape up. I must admit I do enjoy these events and am looking forward to the trip. For those who have never visited Japan then you are missing out seeing a great country which I personally rank as the safest country in the world to travel to. Japanese are a very friendly lot and they keep their country relatively crime free and their cities clean. Its one of the easiest countries to travel around and I just love those fast trains and cold beers.
Tomorrow sees some good quality races as we get into the thick end of the Spring Racing Carnival and hopefully we can pluck a couple of nice winners for you from tomorrow's cards. Nice to see last weeks selections held their own and the Lay Bets did the right thing too.
As usual here are the early selections which will be updated and amended once the late mail and scratchings are received. (Heavy rain in Brisbane last night so have made some changes here as i expect the track to be sticky)

Well it didn't take long to descend from the Penthouse to the S***house ...just one Saturday was all it took. One of the worst weekends for the average punter with abnormal results all over the country. Black Heart Bart who is so old he has been on the pension for the last three years bobbed up at Caulfield at the odds of 180/1. For the first time for decades no favourite won a race at Doomben on Saturday. It was just one of those weekends when only the bookies had smiles on their faces.!! Enough of the doom and gloom lets get back to a positive mode and hope the results return to some form of sanity tomorrow.
Generally speaking there are some very good races around on Saturday and we do see the return of some of the names that I like such as Osbourne Bulls, Santa Ana Lane, Sunlight and Mystic Journey. All are proven performers and should run well in their respective races.
As usual the early selections will appear today however there will be adjustments once the scratchings and late mail arrive.
Hopefully Saturday will see us with a profitable return on investments.
Sunday sees the Grand Final of the Rugby League Season with the Canberra Raiders and the Sydney Roosters contesting the outcome which should on form be won by the Roosters. Plenty of support for the underdog from the Canberra region who will all be decked out in their green replica Viking outfits to ensure this is a colourful match.
Today's highlight is the Group 1 Epsom Handicap which carries $1m in prizemoney The time honoured Metropololitan will follow the Epsom and again its a Group 1 race with $750K in prizemoney.
Should be an excellent days racing.
EAGLE FARM:
R3 no 1 Deploy 2nd
R4 no 1 Guntantes...........No 2 Profit Won $2.10 is the obvious danger
R5 no 9 Amicita
R8 no 8 Boom Epic Boom........no7 Outraged is value at $10/1
RANDWICK:
R4 no 1 Funstar Won $2
R5 no 1 Osbourne Bulls
R6 no 9 Verry Elleegant Won $2.90
R7 no 2 Best of Days....currently $18....worth a tote ticket
R8 no 12 Brimham Rocks...good to us last start so hopefully he will repeat!!
R9 no 8 Handle The Truth 4th
FLEMINGTON:
R2 no 7 Music Bay 3rd
R3 no 1 Sebrakate......currently 12/1....each way.
R4 no 9 Haut Brion Hier Won $6
R6 no 7 Sunlight.. Won $2.40....obvious danger is No 1 Santa Ana Lane 2nd
R7 no 3 Mr Quickie......Mystic Journey is the danger and no 9 Looks Like Elvis is the smokey at 40/1.
R8 no 3 Surprise Baby Won $2.64
R9 no 7 Miami Bound. 3rd
LAY BETS:

Its nice when your homework pays dividends as it did for us last week. Highlight was of course Brimham Rocks which saluted at the juicy return of $37/1 and an additional seven winners and seven placegetters helped to make it a profitable day. The Lay bets also did the right thing and that boosted the returns for the day. Yes it doesnt happen often but it is nice when it does.
Melbourne racing heads off to Mornington on Saturday I think because there is a game of aerial ping pong that everyone in the State of Victoria has got themselves into a state of excitement about. If you must have a bet in this AFL game then back Richmond as they should win easily.
As usual the early selections are included here but there will be changes when the scratchings are known and the late mail has been received.
Good luck with your investments.
