For those of us who were involved almost from the beginning, learning The Toy has been very straightforward as we learned new things as they were added. It started off as a very simple little thing but like Topsy it "growed".
I would imagine that The Toy is a daunting piece of software to someone who has never traded or has never used software of a similar type. In a different thread I asked if was possible to simplify it. Having thought more, I now believe that all that is needed is for a substantial addition to the manual.
This addition would,
(i) explain the very basics of trading, back/lay bets, hedging, etc.,
(ii) explain in very general terms the different features of the software,
(iii) most important, explain to the new user that it is perfectly possible to use The Toy without understanding/using all its features.
Many people may be discouraged if they believe they are missing out by not using all the "bells and whistles". They may even pack it in. Not everybody has the luxury of sitting down for hours and being able to learn it all in one go.
The free trial period is generous at two weeks but it's still not enough time for most normal people to get to grips with this software. By "normal" I mean people with jobs, families, etc. I can easily see people taking the free trial but failing to see the real merits of The Toy, and not going on to buy a licence.
The people who know the most about The Toy are the ones who made it. They are the worst placed to assess its user-friendliness. They find it easy and possibly assume everybody else should too.
So, I believe that emphasis should be placed on telling the learner that he must learn at his own pace, that he doesn't need to be able to use every feature, and that there are some features which he may never use regardless of how much trading knowledge he acquires. New users need to be encouraged to persevere and be assured that help is at hand when it is needed.

Following up my own post, all Betfair software I have used has been learned by trial and error. It's the only way to learn anything as a full understanding cannot be achieved without mistakes. Everything in my life revolves around trial and error.

Relatively new to trading, have been around since late 2009 beginnings of 2010... Tried a couple of softwares but the one I can say that I've started trading with is TT. Literally paid to learn the little I know today, with my errors. Even if by then the toy had the training mode I hadn't, and in truth still don't, mental toughness to be patient, if I win I want to see results if I lose I want to feel baaaad about it.
