Just copying on from something Baz said about being mentally prepared for every trading session, which involved listening to a certain song to prepare/awaken the subconscious for trading, here's the song I'll be using from now on:

Anyone else have an 'Eye of the Tiger' ?

This is my warm up, also a great soundtrack for 'in play' trading on national hunt chases

This was for today I listen music most of the times before or when I make a little break from races. I never listen to anything when I am trading though, its silent

Surely it will make me rich :Kerching

Just to clarify in case someone is reading this without seeing my original post, what I was talking about wasn't music to pump you up or inspire you necessarily - it was about using music as part of your trading preparation whereby you listen to the same piece of music before every single trading session (and only listen to that piece of music before trading, not at any other time)..... the point of this is to train the subconscious to understand that when it hears that particular piece of music then it is time to go from being in a normal state of mind (and body) to being in a trading state of mind (and body.)

For instance, right now I'm sitting here relaxed and if I wanted to trade successfully I would really need to undergo a shift in my mental and physical state in order to be able to summon the resources in order to compete effectively in the markets. If I just started trading right now I would probably get ruined! From experience I know that just telling myself to wake up and trade and compete in a professional manner probably wouldn't be enough to make that happen (it might be okay at first but if your whole system, including your subconscious, isn't working together to fight the same battle then as soon as things start going wrong then you're far more likely to do silly things, or at least this is true in my case.) However doing something every single time before your trading can, once they are used to it, alert your subconscious and your body to what it has to do. It might not necessarily even be music, it could be a certain smell or taste or anything physical, as long as it is only reserved for trading. Psychologists call this reacting to sign stimulae, which works in a similar way to bypass the conscious mind that for instance, smelling a cake may make you hungry without you having to think or do anything about it. I learned this after a junior doctor told me that immediately she would wake up and get into work mode when smelling the disinfectant hand wash stuff they have to use in hospitals.

The music angle can also be used in trading to improve your confidence a bit if you have a bad race or two (or whatever you're trading.) You can do this by having a certain 2nd piece of music ready (it would be sensible to have something that makes you feel good for this) to listen to after either a good race or a good trading session, basically when you're feeling good and confident about your trading. Listen to this a few times when you are in this good state (I dont mean if you have a good race listen to the same song 5 times in a row after, I mean each time after 5 good races listen to the same song, and only when you feel good because of your trading.) Then once you have 'pegged' the song to your subconscious as being associated with trading confidence, you can play it when you are having a hard time trading which, you may find, has the effect of increasing your trading confidence again and making you feel as if you are on a good run again, snapping you out of the negativity of the bad trading experience and letting you resume as if things were smooth and good. I can't say I've tried it after a massive blow out but it certainly does help after a bad race or two and may help to limit chasing or any ego driven negative behaviours associated with feeling pissed off about losing previously.

For what it's worth the pieces of music I use before each trading session (I do 2 in sequence, not because that is scientifically found to be the most effective, it's just what I got used to) are the two below..... Personally I wouldn't want to use anything that would pump me up so the Eye of the Tiger stuff might be counter-productive - I myself prefer something that I find is in more of a serious, reflective, purposeful kind of mood, but everyone is different

And this is what I use as a mood changer

Tough times don't last. Tough people do.

To broaden the subject of Trading Music, I would like to, quite literally, open the umbrella to include 'noise'.

I find the following therapeutic and helps me to concentrate amidst high ambient noise levels ...

                        Simply Rain

I listen to this whenever I take a loss. It ensures I don't take many losses.
