I've lost 20 € on a 70/1 horse, the maximum stake i risk on such a horse.
Sometimes they goes from 70/1 to 600/1 and it's like an API down or a black out
However, Betfair, in the interest of fair play, should make it a standard rule that any API issues resulting in the site going down, should lead to all bets being voided. That way, nobody loses anything. Some won't get the profit from their bets but that's better than people losing large amounts.
Just a point on this - anyone arbing across bookies could lose a massive amount if the betfair leg was voided due to an outage.
The only fair solution would be to refund any losses but that is never going to happen.
A reduction in outages through investment in their technology would be nice but they will have an ever decreasing budget on such things as share holders demand more return.
Betfair have peaked imo and these issues along with others, like various charges, reduce the long term effect of the price value. These issues encouraged me to try others. As well as Betfair, I use Betdaq (to avoid data charges) and Smarkets (2% commision). I have looked at but not yet used WBX, their commision on football is 3%.
Betfair will either sort itself out or just introduce more casino games to tap off the mugs. That's the point. Betfair started for the serious gambler/trader but found them weren't as profitable as Jo Mugg from Muggsville.
'Here Jo, play the slots like a big time vegas dude, you can even try your luck on the exchange, pretend like you're a city boy. But don't go winning else we'll screw you over till you run back to Billy Hill you mug.' :Naughty
Despite my £410 loss I will have to admit that Cran is absolutely right. This is the only way to prevent a devastating blow on your account - you must calculate the eventual loss if Betfair crashesh! I've heard this things over and over again, I realised that this will sooner or later hapen to me too! Thats why my bankroll is much more than I really use to trade. I am trying to cover my liability with bigger bank. So my last week profit were consumed by that loss, I even had to make new profit to restore my bank. But my bank is already on the level that I need it to be healthy again, my buffers are restored and I am back in action - I will even make profit this week. So Cran is right, Valve - you must signifanctly reduce your liability or you must increase your bank, don't let Betfair failuires blow it! There is ofc other things that can occur - power off, internet stops. This can hapen too, you should be prepared for that! Ofc I am frustrated about the loss, but after all I am back in action. I was just a little bit scratched which wont have effect on my long term performance tanks to my buffers (Lets just say I've listened to Crans advice, you should do it too!)
i'm having problems with the Api, it has a big lag and very often the toy tells me i have a ping of 1000, 2000 or more.
is it my connection or betfair's fault?
