  • Android Phones/ Remote Control of PC

The time has come for me to get a smartphone and at the moment I am going to get an HTC Desire HD.

Does anybody have experience of this phone as a remote control for a PC, please ? It would appear that this software is suitable :

    http://www.teamviewer.com/download/mobile.aspx

Any help gratefully received. Android phones seem to be "future" and I will not be getting an iPhone as they seem to be standing still with technology and are still very expensive for what they are.

    Logmein.com

    Hi there,

I have a HTC Desire and access my Home PC through www.logmein.com (Android compatible)

Product you will want is the ignition package

    https://secure.logmein.com/UK/products/ignition/)

I've never had any problems with this service to date so can only recommend highly.

Thanks, Rick. I have been reading about the software. It seems that the Logmein software is free for computer to computer communication, but the application for the phone is ~ $30 if I want to control a computer using that phone. Have I understood it correctly, please ?

I'm willing to pay the $ 30 if I have to. I would use the application to trade football matches only in real time and, possibly to activate a bot remotely. ( I struggle to trade horse pre-race when I am sitting in front of my computer and would make a real mess of it using a remote connection )

Yes, I use the free application computer to computer and initially got the Android version for Free during it's BETA period. I was impressed and went on to spend the $30. I would not use it for any quick transactions such as swing trading on the greyhound markets but it will be fine for football trading/betting, cricket, etc.

I didn't realise how much I would use the app. It's great for using while your getting dragged round the shops with your missus!

It's incredible how many changes I have seen in my lifetime. As a very young child I lived in a house that didn't have electricity. My father bought a book from Woolworth's and wired the house himself.

Shopping with my wife makes me suicidal

To think I can be sitting on a mountain with my dogs and trading football matches at the same time is surreal.

          Thanks for your help.

Please think of me when I'm poor. Chuck me a crust out of your winnings The Geek could cobble up an "app" over his breakfast if he wanted to. Bollocks to the stop loss , that's what I say

I used to run Betbotpro from work using Logmein free softwre, it wasn't really suitable and severe lag was common. Couldn't dream of using it for live trading, and would be really surprised if there was anything fast enough to allow you to trade in real time from a remote location.

My reason for wanting remote access to my computer is to prevent me losing money as I did when England played America in the World Cup. I had backed Over 2.5 goals and would have been able to green with a substantial profit at half time as two goals had been scored.

Unfortunately, I was watching the game at a cousin's birthday party and had no access to a computer. England played poorly and I ended up losing money instead.

All I want to be able to do is , using The Toy

                      (i) place a bet, if I haven't already done so at home,

(ii) green up and take a profit by clicking on the green figure on the grid.

I have no intention of trading by repetitive backing/laying either pre-race or in-running.

There has been a fleeting appearance by somebody who wanted to promote his Android application. His post was removed promptly, and correctly. I don't want a Betfair application for a phone as my aims are very simple.

I am sure that a remote connection would also be very handy for a lot of things not related to gambling/trading.

i used the phone today Nigel from work, logged into my pc.. and placed a back on alfie shermin in the 14.35, using the tick offset with green meant i only clicked once backed 2.80 laid at 1.90, gotta love AP McCoy he is an In runners dream.

The teamviewer works a treat, my only worry is a not being able to place a stop loss quick enough, for football and "slower" moving markets it will be a great tool.

Only one race today due to late lunch and not having my phone fully charged...

The Desire HD does not have a flip down keypad! It is all touch screen.

Nigel did you get this phone in the end?

I am looking for a new phone and at the moment it is a toss up between this and the I Phone.

I would want it as a back up for trading - not to actually trade but to close out in the case of a powercut for example.

I currently have a laptop and a 3G dongle which costs £8 a month so thought if a phone could do this i would be better off spending the £8 towards a better phone - do people think the HTC Desire HD would be okay for this - someone said on the BD forum that it could be used as a wireless hotspot itself so effectively if I undertsand correctly I could still use my Laptop to close out if I wanted by using the phone as a hotspot?

Alos I want the phone as an mp3 player and radio for while out running - do you think the phone would be to big and heavy to pop on your arm in one of those holders? I have seen people using their iphones like this.

                              TIA.
