    Hi all,

I'm back to pick the brains of all you traders out there I'm long overdue a change of computer, my current setup is about 6 years old and very slow however; it's served a purpose and it's the unit i learned to trade on so it has paid for itself and we been through some tough times. Anyhow, this is no place for sentiment and as my trading has progressed to a consitently profitable state then i figure that i need to use something that wont crash and leave me staring at a frozen screen and a big fat red!!!!!

So, i guess i'm here to ask for assistance with what to look out for and whats important. I've got about a grand to spend so reckon i should get something thats fit for purpose. I've been looking at the gaming machines as they a designed to process information fast but i'm not too sure whether i'll be paying for equipment i don't really need.

    Any info or help appreciated.

    :Thanks

Quad Core 3gig ram is plenty..
Quad card or 2 dual output cards Useful.. though a decent Quad card could be £400
    19" + WS monitors pref wall/vesa mountable..
with a bag a sand, you should have no probs with a custom setup, or even a retail package from say e-buyer and add a second card yourself...

What I would say is check the system down to MB level and ensure they are all quality parts...

TBH Joker, what you have suggested is overkill for trading with The Toy.

I use a dual core 3ghz Core 2 duo, 2gb RAM and a budget graphics card { by today's standards. } and even when using 2 1900x1280 24" screens for playing it doesn't push the processor past 25%. There are never any responsiveness issues even with the virus checker running in the background.

So do yourself a favour & save yourself spending £600 you don't need to, as it will be 2015 at least before you actually need that kind of power.

Not that I use Dell boxes, but the cheapest Vostro 230 here + a £50 graphics card is more than enough. Anything above that for trading would be wasting your money imo.

        What's new in version 1.2

Being a lazy sod, I can't be bothered to upgrade even though I would benefit as it would mean reinstalling all my software so I still have a P4 2.93 with 1Gb RAM (2Gb is better, of course) and a 1Gb graphics card with two DVI outs. I run two monitors off this with FX trading software, a browser and sports trading software no probs.

You could probably pick up the PC off ebay for £50. Add the graphics card from Maplin for about £50. Bob's yer uncle.

          Anyway, try here: http://www.aria.co.uk/SuperSpecials/...lsZT1kZXRhaWwm

Buy an Solid State Disk instead of a SATA disk, that will be really an improvement

I would suggest a Lenovo i5 machine, 4 Gb RAM,picked mine up from Curry's, after extensive checking online at Amazon etc., for £ 429. Nice screen and fast enough for talking to all the servers I use in trading.

If you buy at Curry's or Comet, reserve online first to get Internet price in-store. ( that alone saved me £ 20 ).

Two years on, I still have the same computer. Keep meaning to upgrade it, though.
