        Hi

Hello all, I found geekstoy yesterday and could not believe my luck.
I am so glad that I have printed out The 5 Stages To Betfair Trading as it helps me to realise that I am infact
a numpty when it comes to trading.
I hope my time on this forum will help me to get better at it and learn to trade rather than thinking that I can.

thank you the geek for the software

                Helllo

                Hello all,

I have been hiding in the bet devil forums for a while and using bet devil, which i quite like. A couple of days ago I came across JS blog and started reading theat from the start. I was quite interested when he started mentionung geek toys as I have always paid through bet devil.

What I wasn't keen on was the forum over there so I follwed his link and started reading here which seems a bit more lively and a people actually talk about what they do and arent as candid.

Anyway here I am and once I have re - formatted my computer I will be downloading the software.

I have 'messed' around with trading and been stung a few times but I keep coming back fresh with new ideas.

anyway better go and work out why my monitors black!

                Cheers

                Ian

                  Hello Gang

                  Hello,

Bill is the name, I'm 37 live in the Midlands, UK, recently been made redundent and looking to make a living from online trading.

I discovered this application through the sporting index website, after looking at Bet Angle for about a month and remaining indecisive about it.

Already learnt a big lesson on my first day, trading was going well, decided to up the stakes to £10 giving a liability of £60, the odds went against me so i decided to keep trading in race, still went against me, decided to rely on it losing, it won, bugger.

So, cut your loss, but I'm interested in what level of loss experienced traders are willing to take? i.e 0.1, 0.2, 0.5 or 1?

                  Regards,

                  Bill

It depends on the plan you are following.
Every level of loss is acceptable as long as
you make more money than you lose, in da long run.

p.s. for horseracing pre-off markets, I think most (in here and in general) don't go further from 5-7 ticks down.

Da most stick to 1-3 or 1-5 ticks down as I see them

I am not a horseracing pre-off gambler (trader) though.

                      Hi Billy,
                      Re: Losses
Depends on how the market is reacting to situations, i have laid and then seen the price drop never to recover, generally i will accept a 2-3 tick loss red up, and move on to the next trade on the same race hoping to reduce the loss.

heres a previous post about taking a loss, remmember a full Liabilty is harder to recover from than one that is reduced by redding up

                      • Hi guys,

I’m currently in Sydney (Originally from Brisbane). As I posted before, I been browsing this wonderful forum for some time now and have finally decided to join and am looking forward to contirbuting as time goes by. On the old ST forum, my User ID was “TheRash”.

I have been trading sports for about a year now, predominately football, cricket and tennis and I’m looking to expand on this in the future. I am yet to develop much of an interest in the racing markets, but this may change in the future. Presently, I enjoy sports more and using my knowledge as an additional tool.

As some of you are aware, the rules in Australia stipulate that we cannot trade in play online which forces us to have to telephone in our orders. Of course this is a huge disadvantage. So for now I’ve taken a break as I’ve been too frustrated by it all, and have been concentrating on studying the markets instead.

Next month, I’m moving to Taiwan and will try and trade FT off a bank of $10K. Once I do that I’ll be setting up a blog and posting here more frequently. I’m looking forward to getting involved more in this community.

                        • First post on a forum (ever!)

                          Hello all

Have finally taken the plunge (at age 74) to enter the rarefied world of the Exchange trader community as a final(?) stab at achieving that elusive edge in my betting activities. Could this be the route to a modest success which has eluded me for longer than I would normally care to openly admit?

I'm very much impressed with what is on offer here even if it means a continuation of the perpetual slog to attain an initial but working grasp of the fundamentals of the art of trading as exemplified by the tools and wisdom provided in this forum - and so freely given.

My thanks in advance to all contributors and to Punters Mate who directed me here when asked where should I start.

                          Cheers

Welcome ! Don't worry about being 74. At least you've made it to that age and there are quite a few on here will "pop off" long before then

I am older than most hereabouts but because of the type of education I received as a child, probably very much like your own, I am able to do mental arithmetic, a skill which seems to have been lacking with most kids since the Sixties. So, in reality, we have an advantage over most. They may well be able to run down the fish and chip shop quicker than me but, at least, I will know exactly how much I will need to pay for my supper without relying on a cash register.

I hope you enjoy yourself here.

                              • Hi All,
Just joined the forum, hale from Tasmania Aus, been trading part time for about a year, currently still working in the Gaming Industry, (Casino Specialist) at the local Casino.
Got Betfair Aus just down the road.
Been using the Toy for a few weeks, was using BD for a year but found it a bit cumbersome for my style of trading, very impressed with the software (Toy), easy to use and the customisation is a real bonus.
Usually just trade the Aus Metro horse markets at the moment, waiting for the Aus Government to overturn the in-play restrictions so I can get into Tennis and Aussie rules hopefully this wont be to far in the future.
Already been welcomed by a couple Queenslanders on another thread, thanks, Charles39 and Temujin.
Looking forward to some constructive discussion and hopefully I can also contribute something to the forum.

                                Ian.
