    • hey up guys.
posting a quick hello before getting down to the serious business. this forum looks right up my street, and i'm looking forward to bouncing ideas off you guys to get us thinking outside the box. there are winning strategies and formulas out there and whilst no one in their right mind would compromise a winning strategy by sharing it to risk spoiling it, i'm sure we can help each other to devise our own winning methods. sometimes a half decent strategy can turn into a winner with the odd tweak here and there.

      • Hi,

Just stumbled upon this forum and the Geek's Toy after reading various blogs around the internet. Green All Over being one them. Going to download the programme and try trading with some discipline with a £50 bank and small stakes £2.
I've been betting with some success over the past year, mainly following a service called Formbet which has taught me how to be properly on the horses. However like most things want to expand and try trading. I've dabbled slightly on Betfair but do have a tendency to place bets looking to get a few ticks and then end up going in play - sometimes with a bad result.
Anyways just glad to have stumbled upon the site, some of the threads in this forum alone are like golddust.
I've done a blog for the past 6 months so will track my adventures on there - any questions I'll be sure to ask, as I'm bound to struggle

        Rich ..

            Cheers Quo!
I've yet to really play around with the toy, so it's really just been from reading various threads and advice on here.

Played a bit today one example was the 6.10 at Wolves where by I laid the fav Never Never Land @ 1.75 - only for a couple of quid, but then a few minutes before the off took a red on him @ 1.68 without this place I'd have let it go in running, in the hope he'd hit say 1.9 in running. Alas he didn't so I'd so I'd have lost a bit more than 12p or so. Red can be good I guess

              • Newbie Says Hello

                Hi,

Just thought I would say hello to everyone introduce myself and say a big thank you to The Geek for some fantastic software.Been road testing it for a few weeks now and feel as thought I'm getting to grips with it but will be able to get plenty more out of it in due course.

I got to admit I have been lurking on these boards for quite a while now and actually downloaded the Toy some months ago but took one look at it and thought eventually sat down and read the instructions and its not as scary as it first looks, still got some questions on it that I can't quite work out so hoping for some friendly advise.

So a bit about me,luckily I am pretty flexible with my time so hoping to be able to be able to get plenty of experience in the coming months and playing with £2 stakes for the foreseeable future I realize it is a long learning curve and by nature tend to have a logical mind so no chasing losses or going on tilt.
I am reading blogs and anything else I can find (Tradepdia is excellent by the way)

I have been trading horses and football with just scalping and seem to be doing OK the banks gone up so must be doing something right, also had a go at LTD.Traded on the F1 and the X Factor! at the weekend(she thought I had gone mad when I sat down and started asking questions about it
I MEAN THE X Factor) and came out with nice profit . I would also like to take a look at tennis I have had a seen another site/forum not sure about rules regarding mentioning it but would like some feedback if possable(it involves a big fish and sharp teeth)

Hope I can contribute to the forum, a long time ago I learnt to play blackjack using B/S and Hi/Lo so know a little about bankroll, fluctuations and risk when you have got an edge.

Just a question to finish what do you guys look as sensible a ROI over the long term as I have seen different figures and am not sure how you would quantify your % edge, I suppose that varies from trader to trader depending on experience and skill level.

Well here's to my trading journey

Good luck hope the Trading Gods are smiling on you

                  • Hi,

A newbie from Aus. Joined after many years with MFP.
Only interested in UK races because generally, Aus markets are difficult with Betfair because of near zero liquidity until the last 2 minutes. I've seen some posts on Aus race suggesting that they are better to trade because of the time delay in trding via Malta.

Have downloaded the Geek manual. Think the possibilities are fantastic. love the charting. Some questions please:

                    1) MFP had a neat "test" mode where you could test your skills without incurring any damage whatsoever... any prospect of incorporating this into AGT?

                    2) Is there some posting where you would provide a SAFE introductory trading set of notes with the Geek? For example, set up these parameters as:.......

Use this form of ladder interface, it is the fastest...

                    3) Would real time trading be such a problem from Melbourne to make trading non-viable, for UK horse racing markets ?

                    Thank

                    • Hi

I've been trading for about a year now and I'm still learning, mainly trading football and tennis. I've tried BetDevil and Nicko but much prefer GT mainly due to the ease that you can have multiple markets open.

Well done to all at The Geeks Toy, it's great trading platform and you can be certain that as soon as I start making regular profits that I will donate on a regular basis.

                      • Newby intro

Hi to all at GT forum . I have been using GT for a while but have not had much time to contribute to the forum. Anyway it seems there are a lot smarter people than me on here so I’m not sure what I can offer others, although I have been trading Australian racing markets (all codes) for over 5 years now and think I know them quite well. I have done so using GT and a couple of other well known programs.
At the moment I am interested in using GT grid in run on horse racing and will post a thread re that in the general traders section.
                        Regards to all

                          • A big welcome to rlab, KC_Tiger, craigy & bsr! Hope your all enjoying The Toy as much as the rest of us.

In regards to your questions rlab,

                            1) Simulations modes tend to be unrealistic and give you a false sense of security. It is much better to trade with a £10 bank using £2 stakes to get a feel for any market.

                            2) The default set up profiles are the best ones to start with to get a feel for the toy. I'd say try messing about with these and modify the one that suits you best, this is how I started.

                            3) I trade from the UK so would not be the best person to ask in regards to this, we have plenty of AUS posters so I'm sure someone more suitable will come along shortly.

                            • Welcome

I am amazed that there are so many traders from other countries!!!. Hope you all enjoy your time with GT and you make good profits. This is my opinion so don't take this as a "set in stone" rule but for me it took a long time to realise that your mental make up is vital in trading especially when it either goes against you OR your on a roll and making money. One rule that you must follow (or not) is always keep in mind your using REAL MONEY. It is so easy to fall into the trap that it is somwhow "not real" because it is not a physical thing and the money is not in your hand.

I personally don't use tipsters as they are not really interested in you at all, all they want is your cash and you can go forth and multiply put politely.

If you are just starting out put £50 in your account (or whatever your local currency is accepted on BF) and use just £2 stakes to make pennies. Don't be embarrased that this is all your making and don't try to get as high as some professionals. Better to make pennies than to lose pounds IMO whilst your learning. If your not sure of anything no matter how silly you might think it is ASK ASK ASK all the time ask. there are no stupid questions only people too stupid to ask and I am sure there will always be someone on here that will help.

This part for me is vital and so often overlooked. MONEY MANAGEMENT. never forget this section. Work out what you want to earn and whilst your earning pennies keep a fantasy amount on paper to see what you would earn at that amount, such as £50 or £100++. Always keep the maths going for strike rates and bank % and how to stake higher amounts without hurting your bank. You don't have to go at every race either just make your daily profit and leave, there is always the next day.

Just a few things that I do that works for me so I hope this little helps.
