  • Introduce myself

Hi, I'm called Bumble and am very new to this trading. I found The Geek's Toy and have been an avid user ever since. At present I'm learning how not to lose money; soon I'm hoping to learn to make money consistently.

A few years ago I lost £k x 10s with a 'staking plan' and straight gambling (target £5 per race; if win, bank and start again; if lose, add £5 plus losses to target; go round again). And again and again and again until you've lost everything you own. I didn't look at betfair for a few years.

Now this is different. That column of Green is a taste of heaven.

I'm learning and the big difficulty for me is getting out and cutting my losses. Getting there. I want to use The Toy for manual Trading but have something in the background that will programatically force me to do the right thing when the market moves. Still learning VBA so will have to see how it goes.

The Geek Toy Forum is refreshing and open. I've been following a few threads and made a couple of contributions. Also geetting to know, and benefit from, your wisdom.

An especial Thank You to the Geek himself. I like your style. It's a great product and I look forward to helping you help it make you prosper.

    • Betting in running

A very basic question so apologies in advance. I want to be able to place a back bet in running without knowing which horse in advance. So I need to be able to do it very quick once my bet is found. I was hoping to be able to just click on the moving price from the main "moving price" page but it doesn't allow that and I need to go into the side menue which takes too long.

I'm sure there is a way but I'm a pure Betfair virgin so help please.

Not sure what you mean, you want to back a horse but dont know which one>? i assuming your looking at the likely winner thus are unsure about the selection? i am sure its possible via the grid with 1 click betting set to on, rather than the ladder

        • Hi Tezzer.
          You mean the gridinterface?
If so, right klick on the gridinterface header --> Advanced Betting --> Price Click --> One Click
But it could be very dangerous!
Betfair is not the answere, it's the question.
          ....and the answere is NO!!!

Turn the interface into reverse look. Makes it better for understanding.

                • Greetings from Spain

I've just downloaded TT and seem to like it, though I'm sure it's got a heck of a learning curve so I'm watching the youtube videos. Just one really simple thing I can't work out is how to have the toy display on the toolbar so I can switch apps with the mouse.
                  Thanks,
                  NR.

                    • Hello from another newbie

                      Hi there,

I live in Wiltshire, England, and I'm a real newbie here.

GeeksToy was mentioned to me by somebody and I hadn't heard of it before so I downloaded and installed The Toy on Friday night and I am very impressed. I use an Apple iMac with a brilliant 24" screen which is perfect for trading and I am running The Toy in a full-screen 'virtual PC' which works fine and is perfectly fast enough for trading. I familiarised myself with it by "slow-motion trading" on Saturday morning about 4 hours before the first UK race. Some other people were in the market but of course it wasn't as liquid as it is closer to the off, which is perfect for a beginner scalping £2 units.

I call myself a beginner but actually I have traded over the years on and off using tools like Bet-IE and the free Bet Devil. I seem to have the personality for trading; I scalped 12 races yesterday afternoon using The Toy with £2 stakes and closed with a tiny profit (less than a pound in each case!) before the off with each race. This may be laughably small to you experienced guys but everything was green so I was happy, and we all have to start somewhere.

Last evening I saved the PDF help from each panel and merged them in Acrobat to give me a manual to read, which I printed off and shall now study.

It is clear that a lot of work has gone into writing this tool (I'm a software developer myself so I know that the Geek is a serious developer who has poured hundreds of hours of effort into this) and I like the clear, logical approach to the user interface. I spent too long looking for the stop-loss tool that the help page mentions but I've now seen elsewhere in the forum that this feature is missing. I very much hope that we can see this added because it's the only thing that seems to be missing from an otherwise excellent, easy to use, trading tool.

                      • Good morning/afternoon/evening everyone.

I'm Flys-Eyes, 28 from the North-East of England and brand new to the forum, I've been signed upto Betfair for about a year now and have had very little success mainly just using the site for singles betting without trading.

Have now decided I want to move into trading (mainly football/soccer) and have started researching alot further into trading in means of numerous blogs and books.

If anyone can point me in the direction of recommended reading/software I would be very much gratefull.

I understand the road to success is long and that I will make many mistakes along the way which I will hopefully learn from.

                        Wishing everyone every success

                        • Hi Flys-Eyes.
Footy is a nice game but it's also a binary system like a PC. One goal or not can give you big profit or burn your betting bank. Test your trading first if the ball stands still, before the match or in the halftime. Watch at the DRAW in this times. Different situations(fav or not fav, leader in ht or not) gives you a lot of opportunitys. Don't be worry about the small returns it's better less than nothing.
A good point in-play is, if a goal is scored. Markets overreacting and so you can lay the leader and back him within seconds back at a higher price. Note, one tick ahead is better as the stake burnt.

I really enjoy using the geek and look forward to learning more as i go.This forum is a good way to get info and seek answers.

I'm an ozi so punting is in the blood, but i have to admit the geek has produced a special tool to increase your ability to stay alive for another day.

So please accept my thanks and i also look forward to picking up tips and tricks from the experts and rookies.
                            Regards the DUCK.

                              • Good day everybody, I'm Mario from Portugal, moved back to the outskirts of Lisbon recently after 10 years living/working in the UK.
Been on betfair on and off for a while but never really traded as such, and have never used bots or apps for that matter.
I'm here to learn as much as I can and hopefully contribute in a positive manner aswell.
Have watched some videos and been on the forum for a couple of days going through the info. available, and that just made me even more eager to learn.

Well, that said I suppose I'll go off and read the Toy's manual.

                                Best regards!
