Perhaps we should exchange names Jibiko !!!
Anyway, I'm well on my way to beating Adam's claims. After only a few weeks of trading I'm hitting three figures most days.
The other day I made 112p in just a few hours........beat that Jibby Boy :-)

Feel Free to comment on the following also:
1. When I started I had no idea how well people were doing outside of me apart from pinstickers blog.
2. I also reiterate that I don't work for Bet Devil in anyway.
3. ES also has absolutely nothing to do with Peter Webb

The whole post read very arrogantly, I felt. "I have found the light, I am at one with the universe. Join my cult now, and virgins will be yours for the asking".
I'm in!
But seriously, 15k / year isn't that much, just over 1k a month. If you've devoted any time to it and have more than a couple of hundred sitting in your account, there seem to be ample opportunities. Not that UK racing is one of those for me yet.

Reckon he's just trying to state he's not the only one making decent profits but his figures are way off, probably alot of traders out there making as much if not a hell of a lot more than he does out of the racing markets. I agree with him you can spot the other traders in the markets though as in the thinner markets their bets stand out like a sore thumb.
That is certainly a different statement than "there are possibly a hundred people in the world making a profit from these markets, and maybe 2-3 that could even come close to what I am making"....
And lets take out BF statistics. There is at least one other exchange, bookmakers, lots of different strategies. I am sure there are people that make a hell of a lot more money than he does, or at least claims to.
While I won't claim to make anywhere near that sort of figure, up until a few months ago, I wouldn't be on BF list as one of the people making over the 15k pounds per year, as my BF balance wouldn't show me as very profitable, but I have been full time on BF for about 4 years.
And yes, obviously this wouldn't tie in with people that merely trade the same markets that he does, in the same manner, point is that BF statistics don't tell the whole story.
Either way, I stand by my statement that he is merely guessing, and the statement is completely out of place in such a blog, unless there is a deeper meaning to it.
"I am one of the top 3 pre race horse racing traders in the world, therefore listen to me and do as I say"... That is the message I got from it.

Because the toy is free & completely server independent, I don't have any concrete figures for usage as I am not recording login / logout times or any kind of user activity. { I don't even know how many people use TT every day.}
Even if I did, I wouldn't know how many were trading horses unless I tracked what markets people were opening, as not everyone who uses TT does so for pre-race horses.
So I know about as much as you.

I can't speak for all markets but in horse racing there simply isn't enough money to go around to support hundreds of pre race traders. No? Yet half a million is matched on even average races I hear you say! Yet you have to remember that the vast majority of the money matched (80% is a common estimate) is traders matching bets against each other. Take traders out of the picture and the volume levels would be decimated. Traders trading against each other can't make a net profit in total, only the best ones can individually. Then take into account that a large portion of the volume left would have been matched earlier in the day along with the fact that for the most part traders are taking a very small spread of profit each time (in fact most will be scratch trades - look at Adam Heathcote's volume figures he published a while back, they were enormous and assuming they're true would indicate he would have to scratch a hell of a lot of trades) then you'll see that there is nowhere near as much profit to be made (overall, I don't mean on an individual basis) than people would have you believe. I can be responsible for matching 10k plus of the overall volume figure and only make a fiver in the race! The presence of bots (many of them self matching spoof machines) that push the volume up shouldn't be underestimated either.
The Geek must have some sort of inside track on this? How many people use the toy during the afternoons during a typical weekday?
I think heathcote's figures about the number of people trading are probably about right, and I certainly don't think that many people make more than a couple of grand a day pre race trading! So many people have been led to believe that betfair is some golden goose with mountains of cash lying around and all you need is a secret strategy to make it but if you look under the hood there isn't really enough to support that many people on a full time income. New people are constantly signing up to software subscriptions / trading courses etc with false hopes based on wild (and commonly held) assumptions and of course most never make it, most just don't have the time and effort needed to learn and practice (even without taking into account skill levels or mentality.)

Still at least he has made his mark & will famously go down in history as the biggest BetDevil sucker advert in the lifetime of Betting exchanges.
Adam we salute you!
I'm quite surprised BD haven't started RacingTrader III yet. Still knowing Peter, I'm sure he has another super-star blogger just around the corner with ready made BD banners to boot.Last edited by The Geek; 11 January 2010, 01:06 PM.

I know there are at least 3 other people who trade on horse racing markets that make similarly large amounts - you can see and feel them in the markets. Below that it's harder to estimate but there are probably at least a hundred who make a full-time living from trading the same markets.
