Glen was close to getting a return last night but close ain't good enough so it's -6pts for our hero.
In the Greece/Russia game 1-1 was best price in the second half so I was able to get CS stake off and leave enough on 1-1 to scratch all stakes at that score. That did not happen. Again in the other match I got the stake out -4pts on the night for me. I took Glen's advice and backed Germany for the tournament at 4.8. If they win or draw tonight they will top the group and face Greece next. With that in mind the current 3.6 looks generous. Germany (v Denmark) Win - Secures qualification and top spot. Draw - Secures qualification and top spot. Lose - Through with a 3-2 defeat, or a higher-scoring one-goal loss. Otherwise, out if Portugal beat Netherlands, but through if the Portuguese do not claim three points. Portugal (v Netherlands) Win - Secures qualification unless Denmark beat Germany 3-2, or by a higher-scoring one-goal margin. Draw - Secures qualification if Denmark do not beat Germany. Lose - A one-goal defeat would still see them through if Germany beat Denmark, but any more and they are out. Denmark (v Germany) Win - Secures qualification. Draw - Will only be enough if Netherlands beat Portugal. Lose - Out. Netherlands (v Portugal)Win*- Secures qualification if by more than one goal and Germany beat Denmark. Draw - Out. Lose - Out. 17June Portugal v Holland first goal scorer.........Van Persie half time/full time.....Holland/Holland full-time score...........0-1 Denmark v Germany first goal scorer..........Podolski half time/full time......Germany/Germany full-time score............1-3 |

Portugal v Holland
Very entertaining for a neutral. Having put the bets on the Dutch side it was frustrating to see good positions gained and then evaporate with poor discipline. That's life, their gone Glen and I -3pts.... Normal service from the Germans in the other game, Glen knocked in fgs at 9.2 but missed the other two results +6.2pts on the game +3.2pts on the night. Bit of a smelly time for me having taken the 3.6 winner odds for a lump. At one stage another goal from the Danes and Germany would have been on the bus. Didn't happen so all good, hedged this am at 3.5 not worth the risk really, I thought it would move more than that. I hedged at 1-2, happy at that, +4.7pts on the night..... 18June Croatia v Spain first goal scorer.........Xavi....(no show...leave or Torres) half time/full time.....Spain/Spain full-time score...........1-2 Italy V Ireland first goal scorer..........McClean half time/full time......Draw/Draw full-time score............1-1 Group C Spain (v Croatia) Win - Secures qualification and top spot. Draw - Secures qualification as overall goal difference better than Croatia's. Lose - Out if Italy beat Republic of Ireland. Croatia (v Spain)(of interest to Knight Rider) Win - Secures qualification and top spot. Draw - A 2-2 (or higher-scoring) draw will see them through. If it is 0-0, they are out. If they claim a 1-1 draw, Croatia will only be eliminated if Italy better or equal their 3-1 win over the Republic of Ireland. Lose - Out if Italy beat Republic of Ireland. Italy (v Republic of Ireland) Win - Secures qualification if Spain or Croatia win or is a scoreless draw. If that game is a 1-1 draw, then Italy need to better or equal Croatia's 3-1 win over Ireland. If they equal it, Italy will go through because they are ranked higher than Croatia by Uefa. However, if Spain and Croatia draw 2-2 or more then Italy are out. Draw - Out. Lose - Out. Republic of Ireland (v Italy) Already eliminated . |

On a side note ... it looks like 'referee bashing' is becoming the latest 'in' thing ...
Is this phenomenon an effect of Glenn 'using the force' and publishing his findings in the Blue Square Pamphlet, thereby causing a 'glitch' in the matrix, thus causing players to turn on officials, as we have seen with Andy Carroll and now Mr Bandyman!? ![]()

Getting to the last few pages of the booklet now. It was never the best quality piece of advertising paper in the first instance but these last 11 days of thumbing through has left it's marks.
The paper may be dog eared but the information inside has been far from it. Last night however the glow of Glen's crystal ball was dimmed. -6pts and no chance to improve on that trading the scorelines. How fitting then that Glen's swan song tonight should include the England match. I am reminded of the bards words... ''Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more, Or close the wall up with our English dead!'' William Shakespeare, "King Hoddle V", Act 3 scene 1 19June Sweden v France first goal scorer.........Benzema half time/full time.....France/ Draw full-time score...........1-1 England v Ukraine first goal scorer..........Rooney half time/full time......Draw/England full-time score............2-1 Group D France (v Sweden) Win - Secures qualification. Top spot depends on the result between England and Ukraine. If England also win, top spot goes to the team with the superior goal difference. Draw - Secures qualification. Will still progress as group winners if England v Ukraine ends in a draw courtesy of their superior goal difference over Roy Hodgson's men. Lose - Through as second-placed team if England beat Ukraine. If England and Ukraine draw, France will still qualify courtesy of their better head-to-head record against the co-hosts. If both England and France lose the team which has the superior goal difference between the pair will qualify. England (v Ukraine) Win*- Secures qualification and they will progress as group winners if France fail to beat Sweden. Draw - Secures qualification and they will progress as group winners if France lose to Sweden. If both final group games end in a draw, France will qualify as group winners courtesy of their superior goal difference over Roy Hodgson's men. Lose - Out if France win or draw against Sweden. If both England and France lose the team which has the superior goal difference between the pair will qualify. Ukraine (v England) Win - Secures qualification. They will qualify as group winners if France fail to beat Sweden. Draw - Out. Lose - Out. Sweden (v France) Already eliminated. |

Glen blanked Sweden France for -3pts but got two results in the big one +6.08pts on the game +3.08pts on the night...so he goes out of the group stages in profit.
Oh yeah..how much did he make then? ..I hear you ask. Answer 60.54 points over the 12 days with ongoing top goal scorer and Germany in the winner market...Not in these results but he has also predicted 2 quarter final matches correctly. In the beginning I was intruiged by the Blue sq booklet. Glen Hoddle is a true expert on the international game, not some self appointed cyberspace pro. The proposed bets had a price ballence about them that could be traded in-play to save stakes if need be. It worked well and has been fun,and cost me nothing......thanks to all who have joined in along the way.. I have to pop down the travel agents now make arrangements for a trip to the Cayman islands, must visit my money and meet up with Glen......... |

The opening quarter final sees Portugal take on Czech Republic and for me Ronaldo & his fellow team mates will take their place in the semi finals after 90 minutes of football
Portugal only started playing against Germany when they fell a goal down and were unfortunate not to snatch a late draw. They then cruised to a 2-0 advantage over Denmark before becoming complacent and letting their opponents back to 2-2 before snatching a late winner. Finally they fell behind to one of the hot pre tournament favourites – Holland – before moving up the gears and winning the game comfortably 2-1 and for me they look like a team capable of making a serious assault on this title As for the Czech Republic well quite frankly I'm not convinced and I feel they were very fortunate to progress past the group stages following their opening round 4-1 defeat at the hands of Russia who somehow managed to get themselves knocked out at the group stages. The Czech's then won 2 very tight games 1-0 to finish on 6 points and progress to this stage but those wins over Poland & Greece were far from impressive and the Portuguese are a much superior outfit to either of those 2 sides For me Portugal have underachieved for many years but this current group of players have an excellent blend of experience, youth and most importantly – world class players. Ronaldo is the obvious figure head of the team but players such as Pepe, Nani, & Coentrao all like the limelight and will thrive on a stage such as this and I feel their opponents just don't have the same quality players available to them and I think Portugal will triumph in this one. I also feel that Czech's are predictable with their attacking play and a little slow at the back so I expect Portugal to punish this severely if presented with opportunities and they could well run riot if they hit the front early Portugal to win is my pick here... Good Luck |
