Jamie, I cannot believe that any amount of research or statistics can help you to predict the results of the games. I love football and read about it out of interest. I follow it quite closely but I really don't have a clue as to what is going to happen in this competition.

I have decided to stick to trading as opposed to straight punting ( gambling ) and will back Over 2.5 in every game. Nobody will ever get rich by backing favourites and following the herd. My head tells me that there will be few goals. It seems, however, that everybody else 's head is thinking the same thing.

I realise that these groups can be very tight , the first games particularly, with neither side wanting to lose for fear of being under pressure immediately. Despite this, I am going to have a go. If I lose, I will say I was very stupid. My own fault completely !

We are dealing with markets and they are very efficient, Because nobody thinks there will be loads of goals, the prices for Over 2.5 are high. I'll do my best to make a profit and if there are lots of 0 - 0 scorelines, I will come a cropper.

My first bet is a comparatively modest £ 40 on Overs in the Poland v Greece game at odds of 3.05 and this will be followed by a similar bet in the Russia v Czech Republic game at 2.86. Then, I'll pause for thought. Actually, the more I think about it, the Russia game could be very entertaining. I would normally expect these teams to play for a draw but neither looks certain to beat both Poland and Greece so it may be more competitive than most people think.

My mission statement if you like for the tournement if you like is as follows:

Go with what I think will happen, and react accordingly to what actually happens. Most importantly, do not be afraid to admit if I get it wrong originally.

Custard - I see some sense in your under/ over approah, may watch that one with interest...

I'm well and truly lost without Paul the Octopus tbh.

I do think France are huge price though. The defence could be ropey but you wouldnt mind Nasri Benzema and Ribery in your attack!!

I've also backed Portugal to reach the semi's at a bit of a price.

This is the first major tournament where England werent overbet into 7-1 or similar with the entire counrty expecting massive things. Perhaps that lack of any real expectation will be a key factor in their progress. Would be just the thing for them to win it, though I doubt it.

I hope that is a very different mission statement from the one that you use for Big Brother. Getting it wrong where transexuals are involved always end in tears ...

P.S. I don't speak from experience ...

It's easy for me to admit I'm wrong. I just throw a massive wobbly and all the cats in the world thank their god that I am not their owner. I am a very, very bad loser. My first tantrum could well start at about 5.30 this evening.

I speak with experience. Every time I arrived in Pattaya I went to the Linda Bar first for an ice cold beer before going back to the hotel to catch up on my sleep and get ready for the night ahead. Every time I went there ( 8/9 times ? ) one of the transexuals, Joy, asked me if I would like "to go to her loom". Not wishing to hurt her feelings, I said I would love to go to her "loom" but was too tired to do her justice. She accepted this with a big smile every time. I think she was, possibly, a little daft.

Of course, I had to avoid the bar at all costs for the remainder of my stay. My mate was not as smart. Not only did he tell her his real name but somehow managed to tell her the name of his hotel. This is why she would be banging on his door at 5.00 am and why I would be laughing uncontrollably in bed in the next room.

I've done my share of silly things and it would take a book to relate all of them. It's all part of growing up and, hopefully, one day I will.

Maybe, Nige, perhaps one day!
I must confess that I have had a brush with a transvestite, in a Newcastle back street bar ...
I was playing pool at the time and just about to take my shot, when a fly started hovering over the table. I took a swipe at it with my pool cue and hit the bugger into one of the pockets, it ended up where all the potted balls are collected, you could see the poor thing through the window flying about. The locals seemed to be quite impressed with this display of physical prowess. A transvestite was amongst my admirers and duly placed her leg upon the pool table whilst looking at me suggestively. She refused to let me take my shot and was becoming very demanding of my attention. I could see no alternative but to remove her wig. To be honest, I thought that I was going to get ten tons of crap kicked out of me ... However, the funny side was seen by all ...

I should have done cards as well. I'm not going back in as I don't think Greece would have scored with eleven men and must surely be incapable of scoring with only ten. Second half could be terrible now as Poland do not need to do anything.

What worries me most is that neither Russia nor the Czech Republic, seeing these, will fear either of them and my Over 2.5 bet in that game could "go down the pan". Another early goal would do nicely. A draw is the obvious result in tonight's game now, but I will not bet on it.

Who's betting on Greece? Score now is 1-1 and I think Greece can score a goal one more. They just need to stay on the ground for defense.

Goalkeeper mistake. No regrets as I have a "bird in the hand", so to speak. I hope it stays like this, 1 - 1, as Russia and Czech Republic might try harder now. I have been impressed by Poland in the second half as they seem to be very hard tacklers without being dirty.

The missus is a bit confused as I told her that the football had finished.

Glen Hoddle is indeed in touch with the Gods of football

8th June
Poland Greece
first goal scorer.........Lewandowski
half time/full time.....Poland/Draw
full-time score...........1-1

That's 29.1pts return on the first game...for me only 12.4pts return, traded out of CS and HT/FT but I'm pleased with that.......Go Glen GO..!!!!!

No, I'm still in and enjoying myself ( 2 - 0 ) Will give it ten minutes for the third and , if not, jump out.

Just saw that lay price was very low and jumped out. Backed at 2.94, out at 1.22. Be silly to stay in.
