  • Minimum bet size email

    Hi All,

First post so I hope I don't muck this up. I received the email below from Betfair re submitting bets below the minimum bet size. Do these get sent out very often? Why have I got one when presumably there must be thousands of people around the world who lodge low stakes via The Geeks Toy & numerous other software? Wouldn't half the bets get wiped out if they eliminated all the low stakes out?

I'm a bit dirty that I was sent one given I will often place A$500, A$1,000 bets (not trades) which they are are happy to take their 4-4.5% cut from when they win but while I am testing out some new strategies on low stakes they don't want me? I don't feel very loved............

Betfair prohibits the placement of bets below the minimum stake. Paragraph 9 of our Terms and Conditions states:

"Depending on the product or type of market you are betting on and depending on the currency that you are betting in, there are minimum bet sizes that apply. These minimum bet sizes are subject to change and may differ depending on whether you are on our site or using the Telephone Betting Service."

For accounts in Australian dollars, the minimum bet stake for betting on our site is $5 AUD.

We are aware that some customers use software that circumvents the minimum stake restriction and we have automated procedures that identify accounts looking to disadvantage or inconvenience other customers by matching an excessive number of small bets.

On reviewing the activity on your account, we are happy to accept that the bets you have placed that are less than the limit were not placed in bad faith, and that your intention was not to disadvantage or inconvenience any other Betfair customers.

Please be advised that Betfair takes a firm stance on minimum bet abuse and any further infringements may result in account suspension. If you need further clarification on this policy or have any other questions regarding Betfair, please don't hesitate to contact us.

............Does anyone else have experience with this?

Generally Betfair will ignore a a % of bets below minimum, as products like TT utilise this feature to enable you to green out on the market exactly.

However there is a threshold at which these mails are sent out & you just hit it.

I would advise using at least minimum stakes in future for everything but hedging.

Are we in danger when using features like Tick Offset-Ticks Part Hedged ?

Don't think so as I use that a lot on the gee gees & I never had one.

Best thing Sir Charles Bunbury can do is contact Betfair & see if they can shed light on what he is doing wrong.

Horses. It's a word used by little kids, and then in later life adults use it as a slang word.
