Default moving keep bets

As far as I know, betfair allows you to edit "keep" bets when in-play, and these edited bets (change of stake or odds) will stay as keep bets.

This can be useful in football if you don't want the bet to be cancelled after a goal/red card.

However I find that when I move a bet on the ladder, the orginal bet is cancelled and a new one is entered, which cannot be a keep bet.

Is there a way to change this behaviour, so that where possible, the toy edits existing bets rather than cancels them?

I think that you're wrong about the way Betfair handle bets. A bet of £100 is a bet of £100 and I cannot see Betfair treating it as fifty bets of £ 2, or any other mixture of bets, to be cancelled in part when you decide just to keep you in front of the queue.

A bet is a bet and it cannot be cancelled in part. It can be offset by laying at the same price but this is not the same as cancelling.

Perhaps I should have made it clear that I meant unmatched bets.

I confirmed with betfair that editing a bet in-play does not change its persistence:

ME:
Is a bet made before turning in-play (with the "keep" option selected) still treated as a "keep" bet if it is edited while the event is in-play?

Example: I place a bet on a football match before the match starts and enable the "keep" option. After the match starts, the bet hasn't been matched so I decide to edit it by changing the stake or the odds. It's still not matched when a goal is scored, cancelling all unmatched bets made in-play but not any unmatched bets made before play with the "keep" option. Is my edited bet cancelled or not?

BETFAIR REPLY
The bet edited in the in-play market will remain as a keep bet. If a goal is scored your bet will still stand in the market as it was originally a keep bet.
I think that I should try manually editing the bet in the toy to see if that works, although that's more cumbersome than drag and drop on the ladder.

I understood what you said and think you are wrong in your understanding of how Betfair treats the cancellation of unmatched bets. It's all the bet that is cancelled, not parts of it.

Well, that's not the scenario I'm really interested in - I'm more interested in changing the odds than the stake (and want to do this by drag and drop on the ladder). BUT if I were to edit the stake of an unmatched (or partially un matched) keep bet in-running, I think from what betfair is saying is that...

increasing the stake will cause an additional bet to be placed, and this would be a keep bet

decreasing the stake would change the existing bet - not sure about queue position - and it would still be a keep bet

One of the Geeks would have to answer this for you as your question seems to be specific to The Toy. I never use "keep bets" on The Toy.
