40 runners - all can be given a chance and as always to win the race you need a huge slice of luck.
For me Junior is the first that makes plenty of appeal. His preparation has gone well, this race has always been the target and he has no question marks with regards to ground or stamina. Next best is On His Own. He has been slammed by the handicapper for winning the Thyestes off 125, but this son of Presenting is out of a Roselier mare - and so extreme distances on softish ground should hold no fears. He has been subbed in by connections after the defection of Prince De Beauchene. Ruby Walsh rides and that is a huge plus. At a price Midnight Haze represents another trainer who has a Grand National winners trophy at home. His overall level of form doesn't suggest that he is anywhere near the best of these, but with six places available with some firms you could do worse than have a tenner each way on this feller. The supporting races aren't half bad today either - plus there is the all Scouse cup Semi Final and some half decent Premiership ties. Enjoy

Great win by Neptune Collonges - he rolled back the years under a never say die ride from Daryl Jacob. The win will see Paul Nicholls retain his status as Champion Trainer - after rival Nicky Henderson had bagged the first three (Rules) races on the card.
Sadly Gold Cup winner Synchronised and According To Pete were both fatally injured and Weird Al is receiving treatment for an injury that he suffered. Paul Nicholls was previously 0 from 52 and a grey had not won the race since 1961. Today's result changes those stats! My fancies were short on luck - On His Own (Under Paul Townend) was seemingly put off by a loose runner and came down when going well, Junior left the race early doors and Midnight Haze emptied quickly and was last of the finishers. A great spectacle, but for how much longer? Be lucky
