It threw its rider prior to the race and had to be caught. Then, in racing, its jockey was obliged to lead as the horse would not settle. It was never going to win and it was a stone cold lay from three fences out. It was a perfect example of how pictures are helpful to a reasonably informed punter. Quite how it hit 2.02 I'll never know. To be fair to the commentators they had drawn attention many times to the fact that the horse was "doing too much". Only the dullest of traders would have backed it at its lowest price. Presumably, those who did, were relying on a radio commentary.

I presume Mr Custard that you will no longer be trading as you laid everything that was on the ladder and are celebrating a 6 figure profit?

Unfortunately I lost as I'm a straight backer but could have backed at 5.5 and laid at 4.0 ....

Pre race you would take that in a heartbeat.

My contribution was made purely to illustrate the value of pictures regardless of their speed. Enough was seen at an early stage to enable viewers to realise that the horse would not win. The unfortunate listeners to a radio commentary would not have been as well informed.

I love racing and don't need to gamble/trade to watch it. Your selection was a straight forward gamble and was not a trade in any shape or form. I have a reasonably busy life and it's unusual for me to have the time to watch racing like I did today. Certainly I do not have time to trade every race and I invested not a single penny on that particular race.

You will see in an earlier post that I stated 100% of my recent selections had shortened in price and someone said I should trade in running, hence the reference to it going to 2.0

I'm also well aware that all my bets are straightforward gambles as I don't trade due to time constraints

Let's not get side tracked on a minor subject

i've started to trade the last few evening races along side my straight back bets, building up from low stakes and try to stop my tendancy to cut my profits to 1 or 2 ticks

Starting from square 1 with £200 bank.

    Lets see how i go.

Will be very happy with a £2 a race average

I also used to take sp on the off if the bet wasn't taken pre-race, but I am coming round to thinking it may be better to take a smaller loss on all runners in the race than risk a larger loss on one horse. I don't understand how taking the sp didn't go as planned. The best of luck to you - I also would be happy with £2 a race average.

beginning to think that i would be a lot better off just giving up betting ......... im useless/have a lot of bad luck!!

you were probably right. tried a different style today, it didnt work. I was trying to swing trade but i kept getting it wrong. My market reading was shocking. I make my best money when i get onto trends, in and out quickly for 2 or 3 ticks.
