    Hi G,

    1. I found out about Betfair through a small free tipping service I used to run. One of the lads mentioned he used it, until then I'd always used the bookies. Trading never occurred to me and probably never would until I read Nigel Pauls book "Lay, Back and Think of Winning"

    2. On and off about four years, but only 18 months using specialist software

    3. Caution and hesitancy, mind you that has a lot to do with a complete inability to read the markets coupled with a highly developed ability to always jump on the wrong side.

    4. At the moment it's fifty/fifty, I'm still using up my year's subscription for horse racing, but using the Toy for dogs, to "get my eye in"

    5. No, being stubborn, I want to "do it myself" and a course, possibly irrationally, seems like cheating.

    6. I quite like motivational stuff. I like hearing how well others are doing and videos showing people "trading up a storm". I've mentioned elsewhere how impressed I am with a couple of the video links on the forum. I haven't been completely able to avoid tips though and things like trading the gaps and trading support and resistance have been useful .

    cheers, MC

    1. Used to gamble on sports, found Betfair, then by accident Adam Todd and was hooked since then.

    2. FT almost 2 years.

    3. Greed, not concentrating at markets

    4. Yes

    5. No

    6. Timeform radio, just as background noise most of the time, occasional useful information. Skype conference with traders. And I need light to be switched on in my room when trading, no idea why, but that somehow helps me

    1. How did you find out about Betfair trading?

    Used to do quite a bit of spreadbetting so when Betfair and flutter came along it's was only natural to trade/bookmake rather than straight betting as I'd discovered along time before that I was useless at picking winners.

    2. How long have you been trading on Betfair?

    Too long

    3. What are your most common mistakes when trading?

    Boredom and greed

    4. Do you use Geeks Toy as your preferred Betfair Trading Software?

    Not at the moment but mainly cos I'm a bit of an old sod who's stuck in his ways and a lot of my stuff relies on my excel and bots so it makes more sense to keep everything in one place

    5. Have you ever taken a course on sports trading?

    No, but never say never

    6. What other things do you find help in your trading? { TV Pics, Oddmatcher etc. }

    TV is a must for me, it's worth having as much extra info as possible but you do need to cherry pick what's actually useful and what isn't. It's all to easy to overcomplicate things when trading but a TV feed is probably something I'd find hard to live without.

    1. How did you find out about Betfair trading?

    A trader friend told me about it and the odds eg how it can be traded. He's very clever so it changed my thinking about betting on football.

    2. How long have you been trading on Betfair?

    Since July 2010.

    3. What are your most common mistakes when trading?

    I don't know if I make mistakes; I don't make the typical trading mistakes because of my experience and good habits formed from financial trading.

    4. Do you use Geeks Toy as your preferred Betfair Trading Software?

    Yes, it is very, very good. I recommend it to everyone I speak to who expresses an interest in sports trading.

    5. Have you ever taken a course on sports trading?

    No; I wouldn't ever bother. If I can't figure it out myself, then I'll step out.

    6. What other things do you find help in your trading? { TV Pics, Oddmatcher etc. }

    I use a live score/cards feed and don't watch games streamed online. I find videos interesting and, of course, this forum is useful for inspiration and seems to be free of fighting and BS you normally see in other forums.

    1. How did you find out about Betfair trading?

    Forums.

    2. How long have you been trading on Betfair?

    About 3 years.

    3. What are your most common mistakes when trading?

    Greed and impatience to build bank slowly! Most of the time, that means trading match that didn't exactly fit criteria, just because next qualifying match starts in three hours; and sometimes also staying in trade longer than I thought I should stay.

    4. Do you use Geeks Toy as your preferred Betfair Trading Software?

    Yes.

    5. Have you ever taken a course on sports trading?

    No.

    6. What other things do you find help in your trading? { TV Pics, Oddmatcher etc. }

    Looks like most of previous answers to this question reffer to horses; but I trade only football, so tools I use are form and H2H stats, odds comparison (to see possible suspicious odds movement pre-matchs, and to compare odds in their earlier H2H encounters with results), injuries/missings info, and other info if available; TV is nice to see how both teams open the match, and if it's not available or I have no patience to watch it, then live commentary and live stats at Flashscore or ESPN are useful.

    1. How did you find out about Betfair trading?

    Just seemed obvious to me.

    2. How long have you been trading on Betfair?

    Close to 6 years.

    3. What are your most common mistakes when trading?

    Getting sidetracked. I tend to have a very short attention span, so when racing isn't flat out, I am listening to music, web surfing, whatever, sometimes while I have a forgotten position, which generally always ends in tears.

    4. Do you use Geeks Toy as your preferred Betfair Trading Software?

    Of course. Nothing but the best for me.

    5. Have you ever taken a course on sports trading?

    Why? To find out that I probably know more than whoever is taking the course? If you can't do, teach.....

    6. What other things do you find help in your trading? { TV Pics, Oddmatcher etc. }

    A morning wank. Creates a clear head. TV has to be on, muted if I have live radio. Need the background noise to keep me focused on what I am supposed to be doing, and keep me up to date with what is happening, and when it is happening. (Last 2 sentences were other answers, not a continuation of the first... )

    1. How did you find out about Betfair trading?

    Friend was interested in spread betting. Didn't like the look of that but started with £2 bets on the football. Tried a few systems that didn't work. Then read about Bet Devil and tried it. Been interested ever since.

    2. How long have you been trading on Betfair?

    6 years

    3. What are your most common mistakes when trading?

    Not closing before the off

    Letting mistakes annoy me too much. Basically most of the classic mistakes still.

    4. Do you use Geeks Toy as your preferred Betfair Trading Software?

    Why would I use anything else. Tried it once then never used Bet Devil again. Even though I had several months left on my subscription.

    5. Have you ever taken a course on sports trading?

    No

    6. What other things do you find help in your trading? { TV Pics, Oddmatcher etc. }

    TV pics are useful to know what is going on. Also lack of distractions.

    1. I can’t really remember - just through signing up to Betfair and using the site I guess. First started getting more seriously into trading when Betfair released their API and some software started to appear.

    2. About 9 years.

    3. Holding open positions for too long, hedging and closing positions too quickly (reacting to my liability rather than what the market is doing) and not following my rules.

    4. I use it for horse racing.

    5. No - I think people need to find a method of trading that works for them.

    6. There’s not too much that helps me apart from watching the markets. Pictures can be helpful for tennis trading just in case there’s an injury and to get an overall feel for a match. I don’t watch horse racing as I don’t particularly like it.

    1) From a bookie who stopped being a bookie after an armed robbery.
    2) 2 Years with only a couple of days off - do I get a star?
    3) Being too cautious and trusting Betfair to work.
    4) No. Never heard of it. Is it any good?
    5) Nope, read 'Lay back and think of winning' though.
    6) TV radio and oddschecker etc only distract me - I find that taking my VR6 (car) out for a good spanking clears the mind nicely, although Temujins' method would be cheaper!

    1. How did you find out about Betfair trading?
    I was on a racing forum and was introduced to it by another member. Some might know the name Dave Walton and BetExchangeTraders. He wrote a trading manual and had a website for his football write-ups, that were first class. Not heard from him for a couple of years or longer and from what I hear, he upset some people when a venture of his went tips-up. But I speak as I find and he was a real help to me and a nice guy. Used to chat on phone for ages and he'd tell me all about how to do it. Sure not his fault I'm not better at this game than I am.

    2. How long have you been trading on Betfair?
    If answer 1 is right, I guess it must be around 3 years, on and off.

    3. What are your most common mistakes when trading?
    Mine is lack of discipline without question. I sure know how to win, but that's the easy part. Knowing how to lose a little and avoid losing a lot is the difference between a successful trader and someone like me. I've blown more banks than Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid. Still sometimes like a rabbit in the headlights waiting for something to go my way, but slowly, slowly I'm leaning to take a loss sooner.

    4. Do you use Geeks Toy as your preferred Betfair Trading Software?
    Yes. I used to use the free version of Bet Trader until I found the Toy, which is way better anyway.

    5. Have you ever taken a course on sports trading?
    Not done one. I think the one-to-one help I got from Dave Walton was almost like a course though.

    6. What other things do you find help in your trading? { TV Pics, Oddmatcher etc. }
    I do find live TV pictures are a help. If you are trading a horse and one of the presenter on ATR or RUK says it's sweating-up or similar, you want to get out very quickly, unless of course you already have a lay in.
