Quality racing again today with Rosehill hosting the 3yo Coolmore Classic with $600k up for grabs. Field size after scratchings is 17 so it will a wide betting race with the favourite Egg Tart at $5. Winners today look well concealed in the later races so lets hope we can manage to have a positive bank in hand before the last four races.
Flemington also has some large fields with the exception of the Group 2 Blamey Stakes which despite the $200K prizemoney there are only 5 running.
Racing in Brisbane heads off to near where the Commonwealth Games will be held at the Gold Coast. The overused Doomben track will be thankful of a restday.
At least the weather looks good so it should be an ideal day to have a day out at the races.
Lets hope we can find some winners for you and hopefully avoid an unfortunate result we had last week with the lay bets.

Here are today's picks and as usual updates will occur as time permits.

Plenty of action around today with the highlights being the $3.5m Golden Slipper race for 2 year olds and the $1m George Ryder Stakes where Winx dominates the betting.
Eagle Farm racecourse is a mess as no one seems able to solve the problem of laying suitable turf down so racehorses can run on it. And there is growing concern over whats going to happen to betting when a turnover tax is introduced shortly. Mergers and takeovers have seen the ranks of Corporates reduced so the future betting landscape here is not all that rosy. Sports betting is still on the up and poker machines continue to be popular however racing turnover is flat. Interesting times ahead!!
Here are todays selections and as usual will try and update as the day proceeds.
    Good luck with your investments.

    ROSEHILL:
    R1 no 3 I Am Excited Won $4.20
    R2 no 3 Karavali
    R4 no 1 Gailo Chop Won $2.25

    DOOMBEN:
R6 no 2 Mr Marbelllouz Won
    R7 no 6 Criquette 3rd
R9 no 8 Dont Leave Me Out

    MORNINGTON:
    R4 no 5 Freehearted
    R6 no 2 Stellar Collision Won $6.50
R7 no 11 Kings Will Dream Won $2.50
    R9 no5 Heptagon Won $7.50

Easter weekend is upon us and lets hope the sugar surge from the chocolate eggs works its magic and helps to locate those evasive winners. Last week was ok and nice to see that all of the lay bets did the right thing.
Racing has returned to normal city venues with reasonable weather except for Brisbane where the weather has been showery. Track there is a heavy 8 which is a result of recent heavy rainfalls. Big race of the day is at Rosehill where the prizemoney for the Kia Tancred Stakes Group 1 race is $1.5m. The Vinery Stakes is also a Group One race at Rosehill and there the prizemoney is $500K. So expect keen competitive racing in Sydney today.
Big news in Australia this week has all been about Australia's cricket team and a matter to do with a small piece of sandpaper and a cricket ball. Not good from Australia's viewpoint as we take our sport here seriously.
Here are todays picks and as usual time permitting updates will occur as the card's progress.
Good luck with your investments and I trust the Easter Bunny will be kind to you.!!

    ROSEHILL:
    R3 no 6 Nieta 4th
    R4 no 1 Daysee Doom
    R5 no 6 Mongolian Marshall 4th

    R5 no 1 Wolfendale......each way @ $12 or better.

    R5 no 2 Setoga 3rd

Widgee Turf screamed down the outside last week to grab the chocolates for us at double figure odds. Unfortunately the lay bets failed to do the right thing so overall the day wasn't as good as it could have been. Thats racing and we do it all again today with the knowledge that there is a winner in every race!. Today is one of those strange days where racing in two states go bush. In Brisbane the racing has been shunted off to the garden city of Toowoomba where the big races are the time honoured Weetwood Handicap and the Toowoomba Cup. In Melbourne racing has been sent off to the picturesque city of Bendigo famous for its historical gold finds. Lets hope we can find some of that shiny stuff in the Gold Bracelet and/or the Golden Mile Handicap.
Sydney today is at Randwick where the main race is the Doncaster Mile worth $3m in prizemoney followed by the TJ Smith Stakes worth $2.5m in prizemoney. The Derby will also be run for $2m prizemoney plus the Sires Produce has $1m up for grabs. To some the most interesting race on the program is the running of the Country Championships where country horses have competed in country races to obtain their chance to compete in a city event. Its been a popular competition and today will see an influx of rural based residents going to Randwick to see their local hero compete.
As usual here are todays selections and updates will occur as the meetings progress, time permitting.

    RANDWICK:
    R1 no 1 Legend of Condor 2nd
    R3 no1 Catchy
    R4 no 1 Suncraze
    R5 no 8 Alward
R7 no 1 Ace High..2nd...longshot place chances to no 4 Mongolian Conqueror and no 15 Mongolian Marshal.
    R8 no 1 Redzel 2nd
    R9 no 9 Kementari

    TOOWOOMBA:
    R7 no 1 Rudy........each way...currently $34
R8 no 5 Ruettiger.....throw in No 2 Jumbo Prince 3rd @ 25/1 and No 3 Man Of His Words for the trifecta.
R9 no 9 Real Ego.. 2nd...each way currently at $12.

    BENDIGO:
    R1 no 1 Gallic Chieftain 3rd
    R5 no 3 Blue Tycoon
    R7 no 5 Seaburge...each way....currently $13. 2nd @25/1
    R8 no 5 Holbien 2nd

    LAY BETS:
MR6 no 2 French Emotion Started Fav. Ran unplaced. Lay bet won
MR7 no 6 Kiwia Started Fav. Ran unplaced. Lay bet won.
SR1 no 8 Embihaar Opened Fav. Ran unplaced. Lay bet won.

Very ordinary day last weekend with a number of surprise results. Lets hope this week sees the return of some sanity. Brisbane racing is still suffering from a grass problem. In Doombens case its because of overuse and in Eagle Farms case its because of a lack of it.!! Therefore todays program has been shunted off to the Sunshine Coast where this much utiised track will host a nine race card.
Todays big news centers around our top horse in Winx which will attempt to win its 25th consecutive race. The prizemoney for the race is a juicy $4m so if Winx wins as is expected then the owners will be able to afford a decent celebration. Its a ten race program at Randwick so its a big day for everyone with about $10m in total prizemoney to be distributed amongst the lucky ones.
Here are today's selections and time permitting updates will occur as the meetings progress.

    RANDWICK:
    R2 no 2 Isuarian
    R 4 no 4 Bon Amis
    R5 no 1 Viridine
    R6 no 5 Luvaluva
    R7 no 9 Winx Won
    R8 no 1 Almandin
    R10 no 4 Raiment....each way at around $12

    SUNSHINE COAST:
    R2 no 1 Blue Book 3rd @ $8
    R9 no 4 Guard of Honour 2nd

    CAULFIELD:
    R2 no 7 Amortentia 3rd
    R3 no 2 Savacool Won $6
    R5 no 2 Han Xin 3rd
    R7 no 6 William Thomas 2nd
    R9 no 3 Quilate....longshot currently $26......rough place chance.

    LAY BETS:
MR3 no 1 Palazzo Vecchio Started Fav. Ran unplaced. Lay bet won
MR 4 no 12 Top of the Range Ran 2nd. Lay bet won
SR9 no 3 Dixie Blossoms Ran unplaced. Lay bet won

The bookies particularly those fielding in Sydney have had a picnic of late as the unusually high number of outsiders that have saluted have filled their bags. Hopefully today will see a turnaround with the punters enjoying a change of luck.
The focus remains on Sydney today with the running of the Schweppes All Aged Stakes and the Moet & Chandon Champagne Stakes. Sanity has returned with all of the metro racing being conducted at city venues.

Well the bookies here are having a picnic. Last weekend saw three odds on "certainties" hit the deck and another decent sprinkling of outsiders lob.
So whilst we may have survived last week thats the third week in a row where bookmakers have got the chocolates. Hopefully today will be the turning point profit wise for the punters. Sydney racing has gone bush in the direction of Hawksbury where the Hawksbury Gold Cup and the Hawksbury Guineas will be the main races. At Caulfield its business as usual whilst Doomben will host the Group 2 WFA Victory Stakes.
Lets hope we can turn the tide today.
Updates will be done as the meeetings progress, time permitting.!
Good luck with your investments and here are today's selections:

    DOOMBEN:
    R1 no 1 Estikhraaj 2nd

Racing today in Sydney and Melbourne look to be fairly average races with no Group races scheduled. Best racing seems to be at the Gold Coast where Brisbane racing has been shunted off to.
Results in recent weeks have been poor as a raft of outsiders have saluted. Good for the bookies but not so for the poor punter has several good things have failed to salute. Lets hope that trend reverses today.

Some more rough results last week however we did manage to sneak in a profit thanks to a couple of outsiders. Solo Mission fendered off all challengers and paid $26 on Betfair and Man of his Word paid a similar price when he ran third at cricket score odds. Racing in Sydney has gone bush to Scone whilst some of the best quality races are to be found at Doomben and Morphettville.
So with a bit of variety out there today lets hope we can snare a profit. Will be keeping a weather eye on the southern states today as some unseasonal weather hit Tasmania yesterday and is heading north with heaps of rain carrying clouds.
Here are today's selections and time permitting updates will occur as the cards progress.

    DOOMBEN:

    R1 no 12 Tango Rain 4th
    R2 no 4 Oink 2nd
    R3 no 5 Morendi......thought no5 Nozomi could be a surprise at odds around 20/1 3rd
    R4 no 11 Xebec 4th
R5 no 4 Dynamited...local chance to Mishani Hustler each way 2nd
R8 no 1 Redzel. Top class and should win this. 4th
R9 no 8 Dark Dream Won $3 with No 2 Higher Ground2nd the obvious danger

    SCONE:
    R2 no 2 Cradle Mountain
    R3 no 1 Miss Invincible 4th
    R5 no 5 She Knows 2nd
    R6 no 10 Osbourne Bulls Won $2.50
    R7 no 1 Ghisoni 3rd
    R8 no 11 Spending to win 3rd

Some more rough results last week with the best being a 200/1 winner at Doomben. Today looks to be a reasonable betting day so lets hope that is the case. One of my old favourites in Man Of His Word goes around again today in the 650K Hardy Brothers Doomben Cup Group 1 race. Is currently around the $21 mark so despite the tough competition a little of my hard earned will be invested each way with a saver on Comin Through which got flattened last start as favourite in the Hollidale race at the Gold Coast. Its currently out to around $10 and thats inviting for me as its the top rated horse in the race.
Lets hope we can pick up a few nice winners today and as usual will try and keep updates flowing as the meetings progress.
    Good luck with your investments.
    Here are today's selections.

    DOOMBEN:
    R4 no 6 Eawase Won $7
    R6 no 1 Chauffeur
R7 no 13 Test The World
R8 n0 2 Comin Through..Won $11....place chance to Man Of His Word at 20/1 or better.
    R9 no 2 Anatola

    ROSEHILL:
    R1 no 1 Stunts 4th
    R3 no 8 Sedition...each way chance
    R5 no 3 Roman Son
    R7 no 7 Up 'n' Rolling 3rd
    R9 no 2 Noire 4th

    FLEMINGTON:
    R5 no 6 Tarquin
    R6 no 4 Malibu Style
    R9 no 1 Iconoclasm Won $2.75.

Nice to see Comin Through salute at the juicy $11 odds. Still an above average number of roughies getting the chocolates although it was'nt too bad last week. Perhaps today will see some normality return to our shores.
Best results are emerging from Brisbane racing at Doomben so hopefully that will continue on today as the good horse's compete for some nice prizemoney. Best race there today is the Kingsford-Smith Cup Group 1 race worth 750K to the lucky winner and placegetters.
Here are today's selections including an Australian Rules tip just for a change.

    DOOMBEN:
    R1 no 3 Havasay
    R2 no 2 Dark Dream 3rd
    R4 no 2 Red Excitement 4th
R5 no 3 Graff Late Scratching
R7 no 3 Care to Think...strong each way chance.
R8 no 1 Aloisia is the each way value bet.....obvious danger here is No 3 Youngstar. Won $4.50
    R9 no 8 Marsupial.....another each way chance.

    RANDWICK:
    R2 no 2 Vontaine Won $2.70
    R3 no 1 Savatiano Won $3
    R4 no 1 She Knows Won $3.60
    R5 no 5 Vaucluse Bay 3rd
    R6 no 8 Turnberry 4th
R8 no1 Widgee Turf.....each way chance at double figure odds.

    SANDOWN LAKESIDE:
    R3 no 1 Exalted Lightning
    R4 no 2 Zataglio
    R5 no 7 Self Sense Won $2.50
    R8 no 4 Honey Espirit
    R9 no 10 Duality 3rd

    LAY BETS:
MR4 no 1 Gold Medals Ran 2nd. Lay bet won
MR9 no 1 Fifty Stars Won $2.40 Lay bet lost
BR 7 no 11 Champagne Cuddles Ran 3rd Lay bet won

AFL BET: StKilda @ 43.5 start at $1.91. St Kilda lost by only 28 points so bet Won

Just when you think the run of outsiders has come to an end up pops a 400/1 winner at Geelong. Having its sixth only start in a race the despised outsider stormed home on Sunday to win comfortably.
Today's racing is at Rosehill and Moonee Valley however Brisbane continues to be plagued by track issues so racing there has been shunted off to the Sunshine Coast where they also raced yesterday.
Couple of my old favourites are racing today are going around in Man of His Word and Scarlett Hussie. Man of His Word was ridden upside down last start so forget that run and at $10 its an each way place chance. Scarlett Hussie is down in grade in its assignment at Gatton today. It opened up at $15 and $4.20 the place which is overs considering its past form and its track work has been outstanding. It needs clear racing room and despite the tricky turning track and the fact it will be worse than midfield in running I'll be having a little of my hard earned each way and hoping for a good result.!!
Last week I introduced an Australian Rules suggested bet just for a change of format and it resulted in a positive result. I'm hopeful of a repeat for this weeks selection.
Here are today's selections and as usual updates will occur throughtout the day.

Nice to see a few lob at reasonable prices last week. One of my favourite horses to follow in Scarlett Hussie was the medium of a substantial plunge and whilst it was wayward in the straight it still had too much on what was a weak field. I noted that the owners of Scarlett also had a first starter in Tipping at the Gold Coast which was backed in from 50/1 to 14/1 and duly saluted. Tipping will be nominated for a city race next start so it goes into my little black book of horses to follow.
Racing in my home State of Queensland and in particular Brisbane is in trouble. The issue seems to be lack of vision particularly with infrastructure and unattractive levels of prizemoney in comparision with other States. We have had absolute duds in recent Racing Ministers and now the solution seems to be to introduce a Point of Consumption Tax of 15% which would make betting in Queensland simply uneconomical. Its noted that other States are considering the same POC tax but at a lesser rate of 8%. Once again the poor old punter is hit between the eyes with a new tax thats all take and no give from a punter's perspective. Little wonder more of the gambling dollar is being invested in pokies here these days (despite the fact that you will most likely lose).
Meanwhile venues like Eagle Farm and Albion Park langusih whilst the State Government twiddles its thumbs.
Enough of the rant, lets see if we can find some winners for you today.
They wont be updated throughout today as I will be away from the desktop.....should be done am tomorrow.

Back to back winning days are always welcome with a $38 return from the 17 win selections. Ducimus almost kicked the tin for a nice bonus when he flew home to be called the winner but alas he was beaten a nose in a deceptive three way photo. Star of the show was Santa Ana Lane who was 10th at the turn and came home with a wet sail to grab the chocolates by a length and half at generous odds. Have had a big opinion of this fellow for some time now and when he is fit as he demonstrated by his last start win at Morphettville in the Goodwood Group One race he can beat anything in this country imho in sprinting races around the six to seven furlongs mark. He started at $30 in the Goodwood so he has been a generous conveyance for the stable and the lucky owners. Needless to say he remains in the little black book.
Today racing in Brisbane switches to Ipswich and there are some good races of interest there. A couple from the little Black Book go around today in Tipping and Scarlett Hussie with Tipping being the value bet. Scarlett goes off to Kilcoy which is a tricky track that favours front runners and you need to be leading or no further back than a length at the turn to win here. That wont suit her and she meets her stablemate 4kgs worse than last start and the stablemate finished within three lengths of her and is better suited by the track.
Here are todays selections and all going well should have results up as the meetings progress.

    ROSEHILL:
    R1 no 1 Ronstar 3rd
    R2 no 1 Gresham
    R3 no 4 Dia De Reyes 3rd
    R5 no 5 Chatelard Won $8.50
    R6 no 4 Nurse Kitchen
    R7 no 2 Invinzabeel 2nd
    R8 no 8 Clear The Beach....each way @ $13 or better
    R9 no 14 Argent D'Or.........each way @ $12 or better

    IPSWICH:
    R3 no 13 Tipping........each way at $12..Ran 2nd @ $16
    R6 no 9 Oink
    R7 no 2 Tradesman Won $2.10
    R8 no 11 Tyzone 2nd
    R9 no 2 Plucky Girl 3rd

    MOONEE VALLEY:
    R1 no 2 Royal Duty
    R3 no 5 Artiee Dee Two...2nd

Today looks like a minefield with a very heavy track at Randwick and some tricky fields. So we will go easy and try a find a winner amongst the fairly average lot that are going around today. No AFL footy bet today and unless the results turnaround quickly then we will abandon these. State of Origin rugby league is on tomorrow so we'll have a little dabble on this event.
