Back from the New Zealand wilderness and raring to go. Lovely place New Zealand ...if you ever get a chance to go ..then its a must do.
Onto the serious matters at hand and today's highlight is the running of the Magic Millions Guineas at the Gold Coast where three year olds run around for $2m in prizemoney. Organiser is Gerry Harvey of Harvey Norman fame and despite his age and substantial business interests he does a grand job in organising this event.

Morning all. My first time here. I've been learning to trade for the past six months using GT, small stakes and still surviving! Good to find some Aussie's around. Yep, NZ is a fine place alright Charles49. I lived in Auckland for 7 years when I was a younger man.
Looking forward to the racing here today.

    Talk again soon..

    Cheers

Well its that time of the week again as we search once more for those elusive winners. Nice to see the return to Eagle Farm continues today even though its a pretty average meeting. Track from all reports is settling in well although I have noticed that few winners are coming from well back which was a feature with the old track. No major races today except perhaps for the Inglis Dash at Flemington where a small field will contest for some $250k in prizemoney. I don't like the favourite in this race Thorondor so I will be looking for value outside the top fancy.
Here are today's selections and time permitting I'll update throughout the meetings.
Just a reminder that this forum here is an open one and if anyone wants to post their thoughts or selections on racing in Australia you are most welcome to do so. Hope your day is a profitable one.

Racing is a funny old game. Last week I had a couple of nice bets going on Scarlet Hussie (20/1) and Boom Chicka Boom (14/1). They were both beaten into second place in close photos. I do bet each way so the results were okay however if either one or both had saluted the punting bank would look much better. I like to have some First Four bets on a regular basis and rather then just try and pick four horses to run in the first four placings I take a roving banker (sometimes I take two) as that allows me to have a flexi bet and providing the Rover(s) run in the first four placings it can be a rewarding way to bet if your rover gets up and your other selections fill the remaining slots. I took Scarlett Hussie as my Rover and whilst I didnt have a big slice of the pie it did result in a nice little collect with the divvy exceeding 6K on the NSW Tab. So whilst the novelty bets are sometimes hard to pick it can be worth your while to throw a spare dollar or two on them as they are a nice kick along when the gods of odds are kind to you.
Today Brisbane racing has been assigned to the Sunshine Coast where they will race in hot summer conditions. Randwick and Caulfield will also have hot conditions as summer hits hard across the nation as it does every year in the month of January. So be aware that hot conditions can affect horses and some race results may be influenced by the heat.
Will try and update today however these may be delayed as I have a busy workload ahead.
Hope your day is a profitable one.
    Here are today's selections:

Along the eastern seaboard of Australia extreme weather seems to be the pattern at the moment. Very hot in parts until you head north of Brisbane and there its raining cats and dogs. We are not particularly good here in capturing our rainfall so despite the enormous amount of precipitation that is and has fallen in the north the vast majority of the wet stuff will simply flow out into the Pacific ocean and drought will follow in time as sure as the sun will rise tomorrow.
Extreme weather does affect our horse racing so that probably accounts for some of the unusual results of late.
There is an interesting race at Rosehill today called the Expressway Stakes where a small field will contest this Group 2 event for some $200k in prizemoney. The odds on favourite is Alizee however my hard earned will be on Trapeze Artist who won this race last year and I expect this four year old to be well primed to run a big race here.
Main news here is that Victoria's top trainer Darren Weir is being accused by racing officials of working operating outside the rules of racing and as a consequence his runners have been withdrawn from Caulfield today.
Here are today's selections and time permitting updates will occur throughout the day.
    Good luck with your investments.

    ROSEHILL:
    R4 no 3 Vegadaze Won $5.60
    R6 no 2 Trapeze Artist 4th
    R7 no 6 Sweet Deal
    R8 no 4 Island Missile

    CAULFIELD:
    R3 no 2 Naantali Won $2.60
    R5 no 1 Bella Rosa 2nd
    R6 no 7 Antah Won $3
    R8 no 4 Ranier

    EAGLE FARM:
    R2 no 3 Garibaldi Won $3.40
R3 no 6 Boom Chicka Boom
R5 no 20 Zareen.....rough place chance at 33/1 or better
    R8 no 3 Brains 4th
    R9 no 9 Mishani Electra.4th..each way at $10.

    LAY BETS:
SR6 no 3 Le Romain Ran 2nd. Lay bet Won

Big story in Australia at the moment is the four year ban handed out to one of the very top trainers in Australia in Darren Weir. The ban is a global one and extends even to visiting a race course to attend a meeting. He has about 600 horses in training and they are being relocated to other trainers. Stewards even found jiggers in his bedroom which they argue were hidden there. Maybe he had an alternative use for the jiggers??? And along those lines there is a report that I noticed suggesting that topless waitresses would be employed at Eagle Farm racecourse in the hope that their presence would attract more patrons. We live in interesting times !!!
Tomorrow I have a busy day commencing at dawn so I'm getting this report out early. Its of course not final but it will save me some time when I return to the keyboard.
As usual updates will occur throughout the day.

    R6 no 4 Champagne Cuddles Won $2.80

Another big day of racing on Saturday with the highlight being the return of Winx who was recently voted equal top horse in the World. Winx will contest the Group 2 Apollo Stakes where she will start a very short priced favourite. If she wins this then that will be thirty wins straight for the bonny mare. The race will at this stage have a field of eight and interestingly six of the runners are from the stable of leading trainer Chris Waller who also trains Winx.
Have another busy Saturday morning coming up so again I'm getting in early with this post and leave the updates and changes until I return to the keyboard around two hours before the first race.
Hope your day is a good one.

    RANDWICK:

    R5 no 9 Brutal 3rd

The spotlight moves across to Caulfield this Saturday with the running of the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes and Oakleigh Plate as well as the Futurity Stakes. Two year olds contest the Blue Diamond for $1.5m in prizemoney. The favourite here is Loving Gaby and I simply cant see it winning this race.
I believe there is better value beyond the favourite in Lyre, Hawker Hurricane and/or Brooklyn Hustle. Its a tough race that history shows has been won by a two year old with blistering pace that sits up in the top two front runners.
Main race at Rosehill is the time honoured Hobartville Stakes where they run around for some $400k in prizemoney. The favourite here is The Autumn Sun who seems to have this set weights race at his mercy.
Here are the selections for today which will be updated after scratchings come through.

    CAULFIELD:
    R1 no 2 Sikandarabad Won $3.80
    R3 no 1 I Am A Star
    R4 no 2 Angelic Ruler 2nd
R5 no 7 Terbium is the value here...each way @ 12/1 or better Won $11.40
R6 no 11 Alizee.. Won $2.80..thought Ringerdingding had a rough hope at $17 or better.
R7 no 7 Lyre... Won $8.80...hard race with plenty of chances
R8 no 5 Bons Away. 4th...each way at $16 or better.
R9 no 8 Avilius..Won $2..Looks a good thing in the get out stakes!!

    ROSEHILL:
    R1 no 2 Burning Crown 4th
R2 no 7 Faretti .......Think the odds on fav Tassort 2nd is a risk here
    R4 no 7 Seaway Won $2.50
R5 no 1 The Autumn Sun Won
    R6 no 4 So Taken.........no 5 Golden Tycoon 4th is the danger
R7 no 7 I Am Serious.. 2nd..will be hard to beat

    EAGLE FARM:
    R1 no 2 Raay Of Dreams 2nd
    R3 no 1 Dreams A Plenty.........Brains 4th is the danger
    R5 no 11 Dominant Crown.....interstate visitor..each way bet at $11 or better

    ASCOT:
    R2 no 5 Niccovi Won
    R4 no 4 American Joy 3rd
    R5 no 4 Fabergino Won
    R6 no 1 Star Exhibit Won $2.35
    R7 no 2 Dam Ready
    R8 no 2 Midnight Sky 2nd

    LAY BETS:
MR7 No 10 Loving Gaby Ran unplaced. Lay bet won
SR2 no 3 Tassort Started $1.85 Fav. Ran 2nd. Lay bet Won.

    Cheers n Beers.

Terbium kicked the tin for us last week by rolling the odds on favourite. Nice to see a positive result and lets hope we can keep up the momentum for a similar result on Saturday. Early morning committments on Saturday mean an earlier than normal post which will be updated before racing kicks off tomorrow.
The Australian Guineas for three year olds is the feature race with $1m in prizemoney up for grabs and it will be run at Flemington. In Sydney at Randwick the feature races are the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes worth $600k and the Surround Stakes where the prizemoney is $500k.
    Here are the early selections.
There will be no updates today as I have other commitments.
    Hope you enjoy the day.

    RANDWICK:
    R3 no 3 Microphone....Won $2.70..thought the toppie Castelvecchio 3rd was a definite danger
    R6 no 5 Winx Won
    R7 no 4 Fiesta
    R8 no 8 Sirens Fury...currently $17...good each way chance
    R9 no 2 Serene Miss

    FLEMINGTON:

    R4 no 8 Beauty
    R5 no 9 Brilliant Choice 3rd

R9 no 2 Oregon's Day.Won $10..hard to beat. Gave rough place chance to No 3 Kenedna at $26.

    DOOMBEN:

    R7 no 1 Creative Hero

    LAY BETS:

MR9 no 14 Clarice Cliffs Started Fav. Ran 2nd. Lay bet Won

Morning all wherever you are on the globe today and welcome to one of Australia's feature races known as the Newmarket Handicap which is run at Flemington over a straight course of six furlongs or 1200m as its known these days. The race is unique because it can have some 23 starters so quite a sight to see so many horses spread across the track and thundering towards the winning post. If you have read this site in the past you would have picked up that I have a few favourite horses that I regularly trot out as a selection. In the Newmarket there are two in Santa Ana Lane and Osborne Bulls both of which have excellent chances. Osbourne Bulls is the favourite here but I cant get past the sensational finishing burst that Santa Ana Lane possesses. So Santa gets my first preference and it helps that he is a $11 chance as I write this and that he has won previously down the straight six. Its a tough race with a Melbourne Cup size field so if you get a chance to watch this one then do so as its quite a sight.
Interestingly I note that Western Australia's top jock in William Pike has a ride in the Newmarket on Graff which is a chance in this tough race. He also has other rides mainly on outsiders so if you like a good jock on a roughie then you could do a lot worse then following his rides today at Flemington.
Here are today's selections and time permitting updates will occur as the meetings progress.

    FLEMINGTON:
    R1 no 7 Mystyko
    R2 no7 Greyworm 2nd
    R4 no 2 Sunset Watch 2nd
R6 no 2 Santa Ana Lane.....with a saver each way on No 4 Osborne Bulls 2nd
    R7 no 9 Kenyan Wonder
    R8 no 7 Avilus
R9 no 10 Naatali 2nd is the get out chance.

    RANDWICK:
    R5 no 1 Redzel 2nd
    R6 no 2 Pierata
R7 no 1 The Autumn Sun. Won...looks a special here

    EAGLE FARM:
    R1 no 2 Sizzling Babe Won $2.50
    R3 no 4 Perfect Witness 2nd
    R4 no 12 Shalwa
    R6 no 2 Tatcee 4th
    R8 no 4 Capital Connection Won $2.40

    LAY BETS:
MR6 no 21 Zousain Ran unplaced. Lay bet Won
MR7 No1 Angelic Ruler Started Fav. Ran 3rd. Lay bet Won

    Cheers N Beers

Well its another mixed bag weekend for me as my better half has organised some work for me on Saturday morning so unless it rains (and yes it looks a 50/50 chance that my prayers may be rewarded) then its hands off the keyboard and off to work we go. So that explains why the early mail is now being posted with the understanding that it will change tomorrow as the scratchings come through along with the late mail.
Racing around the country on Saturday is above average with the highlight being the inaugural running of the All Star Mile race for a very cool prizemoney of $5m. The field has been chosen by public vote so its an interesting concept which seeks to claw back Victoria to the top of the racing ladder in Australia after New South Wales nicked it with concepts like the Everest.
Racing in Brisbane moves on down to the glitter of the Gold Coast where the top race will be the Aquis Jewel for two year olds where they will be competing for $500K in prizemoney. Hardly compares to to the All Star Mile race however its a biggie for the Gold Coast at this time of the year.
Sydney racing is off to Rosehill where the main event is the Coolmore Classic, a Group 1 race for $600k in prizemoney.
Big fields dominant racing here so winners could be hard to find however will do my best to flush out a few for you.
