Whoever is in charge of the matrix bot set it to 'awkard' today alright! ;) Everytime it looked like there wud be a move it cut back sharply the other way. Why is it that some days are like that, yet others are far smoother...... like today there were hardly any proper moves at all.... other days pretty much every single race has one. Like some days every single steamer will come in further (last wednesday was like that on every race) but on others all of them will reverse (2 or 3 saturdays ago all you had to do was lay anything that had been backed in and wait for loads of cash to smash it out 10+ ticks.) I know there is some variability in the markets, thats inevitable, but that doesnt explain how different conditions are from day to day.

Afternoon bot chugged away to £50 profit in a nice straight line. last 6 races it has lost £25. I have never experienced such a poor result in over 3 months of trading. Could be coincidence but seems this evenings racing was definitely unusual.

Thats bloody good mate, wish I had a bot that could make that cash even on a bad day! Do you have to turn it on before the start of every race, or is it just a case of turning it on at the start of the day and withdrawing the cash at the end of it? SOunds like you're living the dream!

My first losing day out of the last 23 days traded, the markets were all over the shop, for me at least. Day off tomorrow then see what the bank holiday brings :)

Is your bot a pre-race one , please ? Mine is in-running but it does badly whenever the established pre-race traders complain about erratic behaviour in the markets.

I have no idea why my bot should follow a similar pattern especially as it is in-running and one would have thought it was trading under a wholly different set of circumstances. It does not seem logical but that's the way it is.

I have altered my triggers slightly for today and he has made a profit and generally behaved himself

There was meant to be more to my message but didn't post correctly under the graph, today was a good day all in it is just when you seem to do well in the afternoon you can get a bit greedy:rolleyes:. The graph was meant to demonstrate how I 'see' the markets as I do not watch the markets as often as the full time guys but the graph neatly fits into three stages.

Nice and neat in the afternoon [until it breaks 40] then muddling as the evening/afternoon races clash, and then as the liquidity drops/volatility increases I get knocked about by the big boys playing.

I know there is some variability in the markets, thats inevitable, but that doesnt explain how different conditions are from day to day.

I believe that large market players are causing havoc in the markets and trying to gain advantage as smaller players try to make the best of a volatile situation.

Theoretically, bots should control just about everything if the people who operated them were mathematicians and programmers. If I had enormous resources I would build bots which would make money consistently. I would employ clever "scientists" and the very last people I would employ would be "traders". I believe that much of the market is now controlled by bots who having been made by very clever people are, in fact, operated by people who are blaggers and gamblers. The "clever" people lacked any expertise in dealing with gambling on horse races, football, etc. and have recruited spivs to help them initially. This is, perhaps, why we are seeing a somewhat heavy-handed approach to the markets at present.

Eventually, the "clever" people will see that they can manage nicely without their cruder brethren and will "kick them to touch". It is possible that there will be an apparent return to the natural order of things but, in reality, the degree of market manipulation will be greater than ever.

I have no evidence to back up my theory and realise that it is something that Robert Ludlum may have written. I cannot believe that all the little punters acting independently can create such chaos, so there has to be a reason for it and I believe my little conspiracy theory is not too wide of the mark.

And, no, I haven't even opened my wine yet :)
