For those of you sucked in by the marketing for this, do yourselves a favour and read on.

Firstly what they don't tell you clearly is that although the VPS does have a fast connection to Betfair, what they aren't clear about is the fact that there is still a delay between you and the VPS, which in some cases the combined delay is actually greater than using the application locally.

So unless you are running bots, there generally is NO speed advantage for the trader.

Next they say there is a "special" server edition installed on the VPS, yet they don't make clear the technical differences between the 2 versions.

And last but not least, if you really do want to use Bet Angel via a VPS, cut out the middle man and get the exact same server yourself and save a packet. ;)

That's exactly right Geek. Bet Angel VPS is a lame marketing trick for those who are not familiar with computers and networking.

Betfairs API updates at best 200ms. As we can see in this thread (http://www.geekstoy.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2991) about response times then we can see that everyone gets about 100ms no matter where you are in Europe. So there's definitely no need to get the Bet Angels VPS. If you use a VPS then you need a good connection to this VPS server. And those who have used a VPS in there lives will know that no matter have fast you're internet connection is there will always be some delays. There's another problem - you can't know how well the VPS is optimized just for Bet Angel use. I see it every day in my job, that clients b*#h about slow working servers, connections etc, but in reality most of the time there site, project or whatever isn't optimized well enough. I'm 99,9% sure that this "special" Bet Angel version will suck all your memory on this VPS if you will be using it for a long time without restarting the application.

Take this advice from someone who knows stuff about networking and servers - you don't need that special VPS for general use.

But, but, but they say: 'Massive speed improvement compared to a standard connection' - MASSIVE!

This is gonna be huge.

It's only makes a difference if you have automated solutions in place, and even then seeing as Betfair batch process every 200ms, it's debatable whether even that is of any significant advantage.

This PM I got from somebody (http://geekstoy.com/forum/showthread.php?t=66) was what gave me the idea for the testimonials forum, and sums it up for me as far as manual trading is concerned.
