TRADER SPEAK
Intraday trading: Trading on short-term moves in the markets during the day, rather than making longer-term investments
Futures trading: Buying and selling futures contracts, essentially allowing you to bet on the direction of the market. Most intraday trading is futures trading
Position: You hold a position in the market if you have bought or sold a futures contract
Long: Your position is long when you have bought futures contracts, betting that the market is going to rise
Short: You are short when you have sold futures contracts, betting that the market will fall
Backstop: An order to close your position automatically when the market hits a certain price, allowing you to limit your losses
Getting burned: Losing money on an unsuccessful trade
Getting killed: Like getting burned, but worse
Taking a bath: See 'getting killed'
Fat finger: Accidentally trading by pressing the wrong button
^Done the above many times ^ :D
